Cal Postgame

Something had to be up with Saddiq for him not to get back in there.
He came out after committing a foul right in front of our bench about 25 feet from the basket, by making a very careless flick towards the ball for some reason. He seemed upset at himself as did Red. However it was probably a teaching moment regarding dumb fouls. I looked at Sadiq’s stats and saw he would have 6.7 fouls in 40 minutes this season. That’s a real hacker and not good at all. So I’m guessing that the staff have been emphasizing and working with him about his tendency to foul way too much in rather dumb situations. He had 2 fouls in his 9 minutes.

I thought defensively he made a few plays tonight that in the past he would have fouled on, so overall defensively he looked better. And, of course, on offense he moved very well.

2 fouls in 10 minutes tonight, is better the 4 fouls in 10 minutes vs. UNC or 5 fouls in 10 minutes vs. NC State.

I know JJ traveled but I hated that whistle. They let soooo many travels go, some impactful, including an equally blatant one by Cal I think near the end of the 1st OT. I’m fine with calling travels but there’s just too much inconsistency imo.

Also, on the radio show people kept talking about an obscene gesture on the jumbotron? I guess I missed that. I hope they were just being dramatic.

There were moments near the end of regulation and first OT that made me think we were allergic to winning, but somehow we did it in the end.

Kyle and Kingz lead the way. Donnie came on strong at the end. George had lots of dimes, but still too many TOs. JJ was solid though he had that big travel at the end.

I dont understand so few minutes for Sadiq who has really played well during the few minutes he has received the last two games. If he keeps up this level of play he should be getting 15 to 20 MPG. Glad to see Kiyan get some run, but he didnt earn 14 minutes.

Betsy had that nice drive and take in the lane - why cant he do that more often ???

FTs are still a big issue - almost blew the game from the line.

Whatever you say about Red, the team didnt quit on him during this game.

Collectively nobody knows how to play. AAU culture.

A lot of truth to this. AAU is too many games, too much travel, not enough skills coaching, poor fundamentals, not very much team play.

the weather has been horrible all night. heavy snow mixed with ice. roads are treacherous. whole city lost power for a while. lights flickering across the whole county. i hope the brave souls get home safely.
I got to my driveway and then the fun began. The snow was about 7 inches and I think my Hyundai only clears 6 inches so it wasn’t just the tires it was the whole car. Thankfully I had a shovel in my car and I have never shoveled so much in my life! Car would go one foot, get out and shovel, another foot, get out and shovel. It’s a very long driveway. Probably took me half an hour but I made it!

The good news is my heart seems good. The bad news is I’m going to pay for this tomorrow.

The game was so frustrating! But we won. I haven’t read anything about Kyle. I hope he’s okay. He is a man among zombies.

Accurate. It’s why I want a bad cop coach next. Not one with an AAU mentality where everyone gets to play and share. That only works if they all know what to do coaches included an we don’t have that kind of experience on the staff or team.

Kyle is a breast.
JJ is not a winning player. His turnovers are painful.
Sadiq is pretty good at the dunking.
First, please don't compare Kyle to a body part. Second, you obviously didn't watch the game tonight. Just a stupid take. JJ was a HUGE factor in why we won tonight, especially his defense against Ames at the end of regulation who was getting those baskets at will. If you want to pick on cuse players, JJ isn't the one to focus on tonight.
