Cal Postgame

It’s crazy he does not dribble
Why? Does he dribble on a catch and shoot 3?
There is nothing magical about dribbling before shooting a FT. It's just that most everyone learned that way. But, i remember a player in the 80s who just stood upright with the ball for a couple of seconds and taking a deep breath before going through his stroke. I remember him being very good at FTs. Whatever routine works.

I like the fight last night. Honestly I know people say they don’t have nothing to gain bye still playing hard but I feel the kids do. Your next year money comes from this year. You do great work now and next year you’re getting paid.
That's the exact reason college sports stinks now. Purely playing for themselves, not the school or the community

Catch and shoot has a rhythm to it. The ft shooting is slow

Re Donnie - The entire game, he was sleepwalking and looked like he didn't care, the first overtime, more of the same. It looked like he couldn't be bothered and played a horrible game overall.

Then...The first play of the second overtime, we ran actual action for him to get the ball down low and open where they couldn't double him instantly. He dunked the ball, and then he was engaged the entire 2nd OT. Got rebounds, made challenges at the rim, drove to the basket, and made free throws (I think he was like 1-6 going into the second OT).

A player like Donnie, you can't let him float around the outside and not be a part of the game plan it is clear that he checks out. Now you don't need to go to him every time down the floor, but the first action and a couple of each half should be focused on getting him and an easy bucket. Some players of Donnie's caliber need that to get going when they feel they aren't part of the game plan or focus; they lose interest.

Not that it matters now, but a good coach and program would see that and plan around that.
Donnie was tough to watch for most of the game. It wasn't just him not getting the ball. When Cal double teamed him, he didn't have an answer (over and over and over). Maybe that's in part on Red, but whatever it is, it was a major problem and we're only going to see more of this against better teams.

Also, the last few games I've looked at the box score to see how many turnovers he had and each time I'm amazed he doesn't have more. I don't understand. He really makes some bad passes and at one time even allowed a Cal player to rip the ball out of his hands.

Those saying we should have run the offense through Kingz all year must have forgotten that he couldn't hit the broad side of the Dome, early in the season.

That's true but that was also when all he was doing was heaving up 3's. What I LOVE about his game now is that he's attacking the basket, which he is really good at. He's a lethal weapon and glad to see more on display lately.
