The last time we played Cal was in 1968. We had just beaten Pitt 50-17 at Archbold. We were ranked 10th in the polls. We were 3-1 I think with an opening loss at Michigan State - in a close game. We were really good, with great athletes on defense.

We lost to Cal 43-0. The loss was shocking and the beginning of the end for Coach Schwartzwalder.

After 56 years, it still hurts.

Really hoping for a win this Saturday!

I was just looking up that season on sports-reference.com. It was 5 years before I graced this earth with my presence. I love checking out the history on that site.

I don't recognize one player name. Looks like we blew out our next 3 opponents. Appeared to be a good home team that year. But our QBs had 10 passing TDs, 23 INTs. Ouch.

As for this game, I'll be a homer.

Cam Lynch - 27
Marshawn Lynch - 24

Cliff Ensley was the strong safety on that 1968 team. A great player.

Art Thoms was a great DT who started for the great Oakland Raiders for many years.

Tony Kyasky was an All-American DB who was drafted by the New Orleans Saints.

A LB Jack Protz was drafted by the SD Chargers.

And there were others. That defense was great.

The problem was at QB - at least against Cal.

As I recall, Paul Paolisso and Rich Panczyszyn threw many INTs that day.
