I personally think he needs a break from what I know but I know how the program feels about him personally and his basketball skill. He just needs to get on the court somehow

If there’s one thing I think I know about Red, is that he’s going to advocate for whatever is best for the player. Hope Chance does whatever is best for him/his life.

When we landed Chance Westry, JJ, and Donnie Freeman shortly after Red was named head coach, it seemed like a HUGE indicator of Red's recruiting prowess.

Hard to believe that two years later, only JJ contributed out of those three. I don't fault Freeman due to his injury, but he contributed no more than Chris McCullough did. And Chance didn't even score a point.

Incredible, given the caliber of recruit all three were [with two of them being McD AA's].

Basketball, like life itself has a randomness due to health. Chance was very unfortunate. JJ has had injury issues and Donnie lost most of his Freshman year. Syracuse has had a bad run of injuries.. Even when we were really good we lost a couple of key players right before the tournament. Who was it that said the best ability is availability.

Yes, but all of that injury and availability stuff……..that’s coaching.

I’m sorry if if I asked a question that some did not like.
I started this post because I truly was at a loss as to what happened to Chance Westry whose story is both sad and interesting. Unfortunately, I live away from the super hub of Syracuse Sports information and this forum has allowed me to keep abreast of my team.
I just want to clarify that my questions were not meant to be, in any way, sarcastic or hurtful.
I honestly just wanted to know what happened since so little has been written or shared anywhere especially here in Raleigh NC where they won’t even cover when SU plays (and stomps) one of their darling teams.
I wish Chance Westry all the best in life.

If Chance found a home in Syracuse and feels loved and respected by the staff outside of basketball, and wants to graduate, he should have that opportunity. I know I have been frustrated with him, mainly because the team is bad and we need an answer/rescuer. But, when it’s all said and done, life, health and happiness is way bigger than basketball. If the Syracuse community can provide that for Chance and he never steps foot on the court again, we’ve done very well.

2 out of 3 had injury histories when they were brought in. That's called evaluation.

Seems to be a driving force in sports these days. You can't watch TV without seeing an ad telling you how easy it is.
