What the hell? The dude is FINALLY producing and you decide to cool him off and instead, play Carlos more minutes? Carlos logged 33 min to Bell's 27. My gawd. I'm really, really trying to stay positive but these rotations are just killing me.

I have been clear on my feelings towards Bell (not positive), but give a guy his dues when he earns it. He was the LEADING SCORER with 23 points tonight. He was 58% from deep. Why the ffff do you start Carlos for a handful of minutes to begin the 2nd half while you sit a guy on the bench who has shown before that he can go off and is currently hot. Unbelievable.

Because reds rotations have absolutely nothing to do with what is actually happening in the game. He decides pregame what he is going to do and nothing barring injury is going to change that.
By far, his biggest fault as a coach. Prevents him from making in game or half time adjustments.
And why, short of having the reincarnation of the Harlem Globetrotters, we will never be a competitive NCAA tournament team again,

I hate Bell but the dude was feeling it. Like an old time Dion run. You ride that horse till he drops. You dont sit him for Carlos the wonder PG.

Frankly it is shocking how little he learned from JB.
What the hell was he doing during games?

I realized last night that we have become a punch line.
When I think of all the years that our name on the NCAA tournament board would strike fear in the heart of our competitors.
Even when our offense was bad we still had the unstoppable 2-3 zone for the tournament
Now we don’t even have an average defense

Red's substitutions are the worst I have ever seen. They don't make any sense.

We needed "The Dribbler" out there. No one else on this team can dribble and watch the shot clock run like The Dribbler.
Bell was too hot and he needed to cool down... or maybe Red forgot who had the hot hand.

I assume you mean we will never be a competitive NCAA tournament team again with Red as coach. I think we can and will be like that again once we hire a legit and proven head coach. Just look at Louisville, Michigan, and St. John’s. I know it’s been said more times than I can count but NIL doesn’t matter as much as coaching.

I think last night Red panicked when JJ showed no clue how to get the ball up under token pressure so he inserted Carlos.
That said Bell needed minutes even if we went small - though he did miss some open looks in the second half and had a tough miss near the end of the half so he may have cooled off anyway. That said he needed some run.

The method is madness.

Some of the lineups are so remedial it's no surprise when they are on the court for any lengths of time we cede points and can't score.

I've never understood the compulsion to start the same 5 in the second half as started the first half. JB did it all the time and it drove me nuts.

You've just had 20 minutes to evaluate players. The first few minutes of the second half count. Why would you not play the guys who have, ya know, been playing really well the 20 minutes prior?

It strikes me as so lazy.

I get it, he's pretty much the only source of instant offense, but he also doesn't do much to get himself open or move without the ball. Although Pitt surprisingly left him wide open several times. Bell was also pretty awful on defense. He picked up some truly dumb fouls and missed quite a few assignments or was simply blown by.

The SU offense is pretty much one guy with the ball, one screener, and 3 other guys standing around watching. A lot needs to be better before they can leave a one-dimensional player like Bell in there. I can't wait for portal season. I truly have no idea what will happen. There could be 10 departures.

I was hoping that Mike or Donna would have asked him why Bell didn’t start the second half in the post game presser.

Yes, and unlike those programs we have a fan base capable of putting 30,000 fannies in the seats.

There is no good answer.

It's the weird reality for a good shooter that the expectation is that they make 100% of their open shots. The misses are glaring.

He shot 7 of 12 from three though. That's outstanding. We'd take that every game. You play the averages, and he performed above his averages, which he's capable of and has done multiple times.

Carlos is a PG, Bell is a SF. Not sure they are interchangeable, particularly against Pitt’s pressure. Now if you want to argue Bell over Taylor we can talk.
Carlos for his faults had a solid game last night with 6 assists against only two turnovers and 3 of the team’s 7 steals. When he sat, JJ was the primary ball handler and he had a team high 5 turnovers

NIL matters more than coaching. Brown says hello.

It wasn't his worst game. But he also drove into the lane with no plan multiple times and had guys shooting over him all night.

Bell was cooking in the first half and then sat for several minutes in the beginning of the second half as our lead deteriorated.

Absolutely agree, And as I said, if you want to make the case Bell should have taken a few more minutes from Taylor (I believe he played 27 to Taylor;s 21) I understand. But it has nothing to do with Carlos being in the game. Our second best ball handler was being abused by Pitt's defense and is much more effective playing off the ball. And there were really no options to overcome the shortcomings you point out in Carlos's game other than to give Carlos;s minutes to Cuffe.

I think I realized that Red didn't have the goods when Bell made 8 threes in half last year and then didn't score a single point in the second half. Red used him for spacing then for the rest of the game, and Draymond Green went on Twitter to make fun of him

Didn't Red say a while ago that Bell was better coming off the bench, which is why Taylor replaced him in the starting lineup?

Yeah that was a red flag.

Are you sure? It might have been coaching also.
I'm sure. I had a roommate after undergraduate school who won most improved player in his Div. 1 league. He said that coaching had nothing to do with it.
I've done a bit of coaching. Talent rules.
I agree that bad coaching has cost us, but so have injuries, transfers and lack of talent.
