Can Private Equity benefit college sports?

I agree with you. Also what schools are going to guinea pig the “pay coaches less” mantra? Good
Luck. The horse is out of the barn

Schools give out bad contracts because they do not know what they are doing. If you have an adult in the room it will stop the insanity.

You will still have situations like Kiffin where several teams will want him and give him a crazy contract, but that doesn't mean that EVERY HC should get a crazy contract. That is what I am talking about. Why the heck was Moore getting paid over $6M? Or Napier getting paid $7.5M? Why are so many first contracts so high and so long?

Doesn't surprise me. Pretty sure IOC uses same MO.

It is going to be interesting to see if the attendance issues with the Club World Cup carry over.

On the one side, the global futbol appetite is insatiable. In India, people paid over $100 to pile into a stadium to see Messi. Not watch him play. Just to catch a glimpse of him. Nuts.

On the flip side, the exorbitant prices and the xenophobic atmosphere may give traveling fans pause.

I suspect demand will win. It usually does.

What do you do in soccer?
I think the stadiums will be mostly full, but the atmospheres will be very corporate.

I'd be surprised if there is a lot of tourism for this with the way our country is treating foreigners, and also when those fans have protested ticket prices at their own domestic matches moving from $30 to $40 per game. Hard to see those folks shelling out 5k minimum for travel/lodging/match tickets.

I'm in charge of group ticket programming for an MLS team, so I do a lot of the groundwork in building out packages for youth soccer/schools/b2b etc. A good chunk of what I do is pricing related.

Yes, that will be very interesting to watch.

I went to Italy-Norway and Italy-Spain in '94 and the atmosphere in the stands was just electric. Very unlike what you get at Final Fours (I have not been to a Super Bowl but suspect it is the same) where prices, limited tickets and corporate sponsorship mean that spectators are less rabid fans and more "event go-ers" as I call them: There because it is the place to be\something they can brag about rather than being a passionate fan.

No question the World Cup is getting vastly more American Corporate (ie. maximize profit) and less fanatic-friendly.

We'll see how it impacts this World Cup.

Maybe. Lots of people with lots of money out there who probably don't have season tickets but will spend to go to an event like the World Cup.

Regarding the true "Fans" likely true but also true that there are fans out there who sell their home, their car or whatever they need to do to be able to go.

My son's high school team did that with Red Bulls and I went as one of the chaperones. Pretty cool thing to do. Good team bonding exercise.

Itll be like the US Open for Tennis. Used to be a relatively approachable way for super fans and new fans alike to get a decent chance to watch some of the best in the world for a semi affordable price. Now its all influencers who take one picture and go home and a bunch of suits who drive up prices.
