Why we wouldn't take a knee twice at the end of the first half?

I realize it's not hardnosed but it's definitely the right and only thing to do.

Weren't we at like the 1 yard line? Hard to kneel

That was bad coaching. I assume that was mcdonalds call.

it was a dumb way to end the half. lucky it didnt bite them.

Am I wrong or wasn't there a false start before the first play (Hunt taking a knee) which was done perfectly but had to be redone from the 2 yard line?

yes.

that was the 2nd play. first was a handoff to gulley that lost yds.

I was wondering why Shafer went for it on 4th & goal from the 1 with a minute left in the game while up 30.

The first play at the 4 we probably should have taken a knee, but once you get close to the goaline, its tough to do.

I think the main reason was things were going too well and Coach knew we couldn't go through just one game without taking a couple years off my life. :) But seriously - I like aggressive football and play calling but taking a knee was fine with me there.

Yes. You are wrong. That was the 2nd play. First play was a running play that lost 2-3 yards. If we just took a knee twice, half is over.

No good options. To kick a field goal is really bad. To take a knee is even worse.

Had the vanilla running play not been blown up nobody would care.

but had he fumbled the board would explode. no reason to run any play that isnt as safe as you can make it.

Well that's dumb. I wish somebody would explain why they ran a play there when they should have just taken a knee.

But the point is, being in that situation was avoidable. Just take a knee. How many bad things can happen with a vanilla running play where the RB starts nearly 7 yards deep and you have to hand the ball off?

Probably my 2 biggest gripes with this game were just brought up in this thread. The knee, which I believe should have been taken at the end of the first. No reason to mess around that close to end zone with roughly 20 seconds to go in half. Second, why hunt was running the ball with 2 minutes left in the game up 40-3 and taking that helmet to helmet hit and then head slamming against the ground. No need for that, don't need those hits in a game that is over. Last thing he needs is a concussion. Just hand it to a running back or bring in the backup QB. There was nothing to be gained by keeping hunt in and running at that point. CM was pissed they were getting whipped and maybe they take a cheap shot, you never know.

The Atlanta brain trust of javadoc and Moontan wondered why Hunt was out there for the last series. We would've opted for Wilson.

I think the staff wanted to get every rep possible for Hunt who missed most of week 1, sat out the bye and is still getting some much needed on the job training before we get the conference games

Which is another reason they went for it on 4th down

One handoff to the rb isn't going to do a whole lot, he had plenty of snaps in the first half to get back in the groove.

McDonald must have been thinking about that bacon cheeseburger waiting for him in the locker room and not paying attention. Terrible coaching.

Both were bad. Take a knee from the start and get Hunt the hell out of the game late, we lose him we are in a ton of trouble
