Can we expect when LSU comes here

"pass interference on the day - fense" still haunts me to this day. That and P and D play calling like p#$%'s on SU's final goal line possession.

You're kidding. Right?

The Vols dominated our lines all day.

Al Wilson the awesome Vols LB was in McNabb's face all day.

The SU coaching and a few heroic plays by Donovan, kept us in the game and nearly won it against the eventual National Champion SEC team.

But for that stupid penalty call, we win it.

I'm sorry, it is mind boggling to me to read these kinds of posts.

amazing that under P&D it is always the coaching that was responsible for anything good that happened, but NEVER for anything bad

We played way too conservative at the end. No reasonable person can disagree with that. Our skill talent kept us in the game. We had the #3 pick in the draft and two outstanding wide outs in spotwood and Johnson. Our backs were good. A little more aggressive play calling at the end and we win. The poster was correct.

We had 445 yards of total offense, including 145 on the ground (191 if you don't include sacks). The Vols were blitzing and harassing Donovan all day, but the offense moved the ball the whole game against them. That's part coaching, part talent. PI lost the game, but conservative play-calling at the goal line was also partially to blame.

Losing that game wasn't on the coaches or the players. I actually thought DeLeone called a pretty good game for the most part that day. The goal line conservatism was frustrating at the time though.

that we will be called for having our knee pads too high. Never saw that call before. Haven't seen it since.

Not sure if you saw the Louisiana Tech/Western Kentucky game last Thursday night, but the hilltoppers looked like they were wearing tight shorts. Their pants were two inches above the knee, at least, and they had no pads in them. Did the rule change?

You must've watched a different game then I did, the one I saw Syracuse put up 30+ against that Tennesee defense. Things were tough early on but that defense wore out in the second half and Syracuse was moving the ball at will against them. Neither team could stop the other in that 4th quarter, Syracuse's last drive they moved the ball with ease but once they got into the red zone they played so conservative. They ran 2 or 3 running plays right up the gut, which seemed to be more for setting up for the FG but still netted nearly 10 yards and set up a 4th and inches inside the 3 yard line as I recall. They should've gone for it knowing that 2 point lead wasn't going to hold up, Tenessee wasn't going to stop McNabb from picking up a few inches at the very least. Should've put the game in the hands of your senior heisman candidate. I remember watching that game in a Syracuse bar and everyone went silent after the kick was made because everyone knew the Syracuse D was to gassed to keep Tenessee from moving the ball into scoring range - many like I felt like they lost the game right then and there.

Yes, I think it was called twice. Same penalty.

Wha?

We outgained them 445 yards to 390 yards.

We had a TEN MINUTE time of possession advantage despite UT running for 250 yards.

We were also 7 of 15 on 3rd downs.

I'm not blaming the coaches but you're recollection of the game is not close to reality.

I wasn't at a bar.

I was at the game.

This is my last post on this pointless and nonsensical discussion.

The Orange coaches put a team that was clearly outmanned in position to beat the eventual National Champion.

The coaching was nothing short of great. We should only be so lucky to ever get back to that kind of success.

I saw you on Hard Knocks. I'm glad that you landed on your feet after you were wrongfully let go in 2004.

I hope that Jill is doing well. Do you still keep in touch with George? Hope he is well also.

I was there and I'll stand by my recollection.

Were you there?

OK, fine.

Yes, I was there. Why that matters I have no idea, but I'm sure to you it is critically important.

I guess one couldn't possibly understand how we could have achieved a 10 minute TOP advantage from watching on TV. Weird to hear that in re: to a coaching staff that legendarily needed to see film to understand how things occured, but whatever

I was at the game. Second row. We were down by 1 and had just had that huge play by McNabb to escape pressure and get the ball to Daniel at the 10. Then we did this:

Run up the middle with Kyle McIntosh

Short side option pitch to Dee Brown (because McIntosh got hurt and the Vols went after McNabb for obvious reasons on the option)

Up the middle to Dee Brown

Tennessee takes its FIRST timeout of the half.

SU kicks FG to go up by 2 and Tenn gets ball back with under 3 minutes to go

Perhaps you forget the lop sided losses we had in the years after with that great coaching staff. UConn got the band back together. How did that work out for them?

That short-side option never got old.:bat:

If I recall, I think we actually had a 1st and goal from the 7. And from my untrained eye (which was present in the Dome), we were perfectly content to get 3 out of it.

It nearly worked. But it would have been nice to see is try to force them into a TD. We knew they had a great kicker.

Konrad fumble before halftime was a huge dagger, always gets lost in the PI, knee pads, etc.

Look when you have arguably the best dual threat weapon in the game, and two elite college receivers, you definitely want to put the ball in the hands of running backs three straight plays.

This is not even debatable.

2nd string RB on two of those plays, to boot.

This game is on YouTube, btw.

I wish at least one of the play calls could have given the chance for McNabb to get it into the end zone.

It was just too much time with Tenn having two TOs to try to run down the clock. And Jamal Lewis was a beast.
