Can we just start giving Smith the ball 30 times a game

I've gotta eat a little crow here. He's made a bigger jump than I thought he was capable of. He's definitely breaking more tackles and getting more yards after first contact than he got last year.

I would really like to see a balanced attack this weekend. Like 55 run/45 pass and give each QB some decent run.

Our running game will be fine, it's the QB situation I worry about.

marrone would be in full blown 3 yards and a cloud of dust mode right now. not saying that is the right thing to do, but our best player needs the rock

we've been pretty balanced on first down

30 passes 38 rushes

there might be some sacks in there credited as rushes but still. the horrible clusterpunt a week ago counts as a rush

second down it flips to 27 passes 23 rushes

overall 82 passes to 71 rushes

(that's a lot of plays for a bad offense. we suck per play but we suck often.)

3 games ago Gulley had 208 yards. I'm not going to kill them for giving him the ball, he was good down the stretch last year

Only three sacks all year, and there has only been one run where Allen took off right because he had 15 yds of open space in front of him against PSU. That's it for any called passes that turned into runs that I can remember. Pass protection has NOT been an issue.

Pass protection has been OK.. it was better against NW, less mistakes. the running game is what is slowing us down. We are not getting clean runs threw the line so fewer good chances at play action

Id like to see the runs go from the 4 hole out and get to the edge a little more. Against PSU I have this horrible groundhog day vision of running between the guards over and over again.

The two good runs that day were Smith getting to the edge.

No more Gully please. I would rather let the two RS Freshman run the ball. Gully has looked awful.

I think the focus is too much on spreading the ball around to our multiple backs.

I agree, lets go back to Jerome being our primary back on 1st and 2nd down and use PTG on 3rd down so we don't have to see Jerome's inconsistent hands on 3rd down anymore.

even if you throw out WVU, the prior 5 games, he was a 5.2 per carry guy.

he doesn't all of a sudden stink

maybe it's all pugh, i don't know

Please, kid is our #2 back, he isn't going anywhere, I think he has shown that he can run the ball with any type of hole to run through.. the love affair with the two running backs behind Smith and Gulley is absurd

Pugh has a lot to do with it but calling for Gulley to be benched is insane

The love affair with the 2 RS Freshman I agree is absurd at this point. We have 2 proven workhorses already, give them the rock split 40x a game 20 each and if we are ahead at the end, give the youngsters the ball in mop up duty to get them used to game speed. Or use them in case of injuries God forbid. Stop trying to re-invent the wheel with unknown quantities.

Yep, two running backs ( Smith and Gulley), receivers West, Clark, Kobena, I still think Funderburke ( He's big and fast, why not?) can play, H Backs Broyld/ Estime. Those are your guys at this point. Quit around.

What about the 2 back sets we heard about? Is that the kitchen sink package? I am waiting
Let this core group work together and develop, I just think we are messing with too much, keep it simple

Must be we are trying to be "multiple" by trying to re-invent the wheel and use a lot of trickeration. So much so that we trickerated our own players into not knowing What we are running.

Wasn't Shafer's thing always about not having players think too much so they could play fast? Seems we have been trying to be so multiple on offense, all the players are doing is thinking. Thinking us right out of a hurry up offense as well as thinking us out of first downs and scores as well.

It all starts with the big slobberknockers up front. I've got no problem with running it until they stop it. But our backs are getting stopped early and that is a line problem. We have the skills guys. We just need the line to block and the QB to get the ball in the hands of the playmakers and not turn the ball over. It really can be a very simple game.

Coach Mac isn't giving him the ball because he doesn't want Smith to leave for the NFL. Showcase him and he's gone so it's better to tie him up and not give him the sugar.

That would be insane...I don't believe that for a second. I do think they can't see the forest for the trees. Jumping over dollars to pick up pennies. Not giving the ball to a back that averaged 5.2 yards per carry last year in favor of passing the ball using a suspect QB to unproven receivers.

Sounds more like gambling than football.

Just raising some Kane.
