Went to the game on Saturday (live in S. FL). Wish we played the U more often. Had an amazing time. Great SU section. We were in it until the end and could have won - I couldn't ask for more. Didn't expect a win, but thought it was possible until the last possession ended! Anyway... An interesting/frustrating observation from the game - and this was said to me by my hubby (a UT Volunteer) TWICE, that he thought they were pumping in crowd noise when we had the ball and especially on our 3rd downs. The stadium attendance was relatively low (tons of empty seats) and the place was REALLY loud. When the music stopped, the crowd noise was not loud at all. Anyone else who attended notice this???

On TV sounded way louder than our game vs Clemson

And crowd looked spread out and dare I say sparse

Next question -- is this allowed? Or a possible NCAA or ACC violation if true???

Hmmmm...very interesting. Sort of the opposite fakeness of ESPN filtering out crowd noise but this actually affects the game.

And iirc, there are rules that limit when the band can play which I always assumed was to prevent the home team from having an unfair advantage.

Lots of empty seats for an undefeated top 10 team? Thats not good......

They've never had great attendance numbers, even during their national championship runs.

Yeah, and their stadium is farther from campus than the Orange Bowl was. Is Miami the Los Angeles of the east?

I think the Hard Rock capacity is 65,000 or so. I was at the game, and would guess it was about 2/3 full, so I would guess that there were 40-45,000 there. It was fairly loud at times and the Syracuse fans certainly got into it with several "Let's go Orange" chants.

Interestingly, as we saw, the stadium has a roof that covers all or most of the seats, but not the field- much like the old Texas stadium that the Dallas Cowboys played in. At the game I thought this place is much louder than I would have thought - it may some have been the sound bouncing around inside the structure.

It wasn't as loud as the Clemson game, though.

On TV it sounded like 90K were in the stands. Then they pan the stadium and it's nothing but empty seats. I thought it was pretty bizarre. Would anybody really be surprised if the U was pumping in crowd noise? They've always been a dirty cheating program. Thug U.

I think you are on to something... unusually loud...however the roof has to help.

Worth looking into.
I had not considered this, but there were a few moments (3rd downs especially) where I said to myself ... "dang, this place is loud." Piping in crowd noise? I think it just might be the case.

I attended the game and three things jumped out at me ...
  • Great Stadium. I'd go again, even for a non-SU ACC game. Strong tailgating, which I underestimated going in. Overall, solid marks on the Hard Roch football experience.
  • I was impressed by how many people were in attendance for a non-premium game. I'd estimate 43-44,000 were in the stadium. And it was a very good atmosphere. Close game helped. The Canes would kill it if they had a 50,000-seat stadium on or at least very close to their campus. Overall, I think Miami football is quite viable and trending up.
  • I was also taken aback by how many SU fans were at the game. Maybe I should not have been, but there were a ton there. Some visiting for the weekend, others that were transplants. The person I went with is not an SU person, and he was impressed by our turnout too.
Sucks that we have to wait 12 more years visit the Canes again. Alert to ACC Office, this has to be fixed. We need to play the teams in the Atlantic more often. Let's go to the 3+5+5 scheduling model and tell the B1G's Jim DeLaney to stuff it!

Hard Rock holds around 65K. They had attendance at 55K for the game. I would have guess actual butts in seats were around 50K. It's a large stadium, but I suggested the same thing to my wife who shot me down pretty quickly. Was very loud for as many gaps being there. Also did not like how liberally the sound system played music as well. They kept it going right up until the snap at times.

Did someone say NCAA violations and Miami. Not that they'd ever cheat or anything.....

Sounded to me that they were pumping in noise... it was glaring because on those interceptions, the noise wasn't nearly as loud as the pre snap third down noise. The BC game last year clearly had a ton of pumped in noise... not sure how many places do this but is it not allowed? Overall the game day experience was good. Nice stadium, good vendors, nice seats, good video boards... although the field was awful and the distance from their campus is unacceptable. I do wish we were playing them on a yearly basis.

They've never had great attendance numbers, even during their national championship runs.

I vaguely remember Chris/Lee/Kirk saying the Gameday turnout for Cuse/Miami 2001 was the smallest they had in their history.

I have to think the roof was designed to reflect noise, but I'm all for conspiracy theories of them piping in crowd noise.

OT, but i have never understood why there aren't more of these European Soccer Style roofs for major football stadiums

Had the same thing happening at LSU. They blasted music with heavy bass right up until we snapped the ball and that crowd honestly wasn't loud at all. I'm sure it's a different animal when they're playing a big SEC game.

Biggest bunch of front-runner fans in CFB.
