at his release of the ball o plays to first. As fast and smooth as you could draw up on the board. Out of pure curiosity ,I wonder what he could generate off the mound in mph? It will probably never be known which is fine. Today's blast to left center was a monster hit for a left handed batter.About 420'. He will no doubt end his career as the top Yankee secondbaseman offensively of all time if he isn't already.

Cano is an amazing all-around talent and is headed for Cooperstown if he puts together another five or six seasons like this. But don't forget about Tony Lazzeri and Joe Gordon, who are already there. Lazzeri quietly put up some incredible offensive numbers on those Ruth/Gehrig teams at a time when that kind of production was uncommon for the position. And Gordon was a tremendous run producer and fielder who lost two prime years while serving in World War II.

Cano is coming up for contract renewal after next season. Will 7 years $125 million get it done? The Yankees supposedly don't want to go beyond 4 years in contracts anymore. Cano will be 31 after the end of 2013, so 7 years extends him out to 38.

I know that Lazeri was a great player. Rizutto told us enough times to seal that deal without question Joe Gordon was also oft mentioned by Phil. Phil loved the infielders.
