Or it can empower the players that are chosen. Cannot generalize like that.

Many of us played sports and we know one thing. Captains need to be chosen by the players not the coaches. I hope that this is what is happening

I knew a bunch of teams that had captains chosen by the players that would have been much better served to have had the coaches choose the captains. HS teams especially are bad at it.. would like to think college kids would be a better job.

I also know a coach who doesn't believe in captains. Thinks they're phony and at the end of the day it doesn't matter. This coach has won 6 conference championships in the last 9 years and been to the NCAA Tournament at the D1 level 9 times in his 19 year career.

Talent wins. We are upgrading the talent and will win when we do. Captains are a nice resume builder.

Leaders assert themselves with or without a title. Perhaps some of the infighting last year was propagated by Captains and Doug is looking to avert a repeat.
I was a Captain in HS but didn't play any harder because of it.

Captain does not always equal leader. We need leaders on the team not some guys with meaningless titles.
