I miss this. I got to see Navy in a Carrier Classic. LaSalle was one other team. St. Josephs might have been the 4th. But why can't the Dome should host an exempt tournament to generate revenue to put towards NIL? Obviously, we are centrally located in NY and have a ridiculously good venue. Could easily get 8 teams some years just from NY:

America East: Binghamton, Albany
Atlantic 10: St. Bonaventure
Big East: St. Johns
CAA: Hofstra
Ivy: Cornell, Columbia
MAAC: Several
MAC: Buffalo
Northeast: Lemoyne, several others
Patriot: Colgate, Army

And if we had to pull in some from nearby northeastern states every so often, so be it. Why not use the Dome that way?

NIL comes from outside the school. Soon (next season?) schools can start paying players directly, subject to a cap. It’s my understanding, which could be a flawed understanding, that Syracuse isn’t going to have an issue coming up with the money to pay players directly. It’s the outside NIL money that’s a problem for us, and an event like this doesn’t help that cause.

I will argue that it was the Carrier Classic, and not the Big East, that led to SUs rise as a national power. ;)

Not opposed to something like this.

Think we should be better first tho.

Holding and event like this and then getting bounced in your first game by St. Bonnies or Colgate would not be a good look.

Well, if we are going to be in it, then I think we want to schedule a team we can easily beat for Round 1... such as, well... I would have said Lemoyne, but... I think it is best that it just be a fundraiser for us.

Well, I think that it is always hard for Syracuse to part with its money. That is why they want to raise money to pay the NIL, rather than just divert the 22% of existing TV revenue and gate revenue. I am trying to figure out why a requirement to pay 22% of existing revenue requires donors to contribute to it. In any event, it is what it is.

Regardless, if the Dome leases out the Dome for three days, with the Orange Basketball NIL getting 10% of the gate as the "sponsor" of the tournament. 8 NY or "distance near" teams there. Call it the Jim Boeheim CNY Classic. Have some former Syracuse players show up to sign autographs. A way for them to contribute to the program without writing a check out of their own funds. And for Syracuse fans to want to show up to watch other teams. Heck, if Siena is in it, we would probably get a huge local turnout, plus buses from Scranton... ha ha

You should invite Stony Brook from the CAA before Hofstra! IMHO.
