CBB Future Power Rankings

This troubles me too but for a slightly different reason. Obviously JB helps draw the attention of top recruits just because he's JB. But I sincerely believe that Hop is just as big a reason for landing those recruits as JB is. The kids love Hop and he seems to develop closer relationships with the players and recruits than Jimmy does. I have every confidence in him as recruiter, coach and rightful heir to Boeheim. But will he stick around another 3 - 4 years, waiting to take over? It makes me very nervous to consider the possibility that we could be without JB and Hop come 2017. Someone set me straight and put my mind at ease please!

I think that maybe the only job to worry about would be if UCLA wanted him.

arizona? they have been off the map for a decade.

What?! Arizona has been a powerhouse/name program since Lute arrived and now with Miller. Miller's last couple of recruiting classes have been stellar. Hardly off the map and certainly a major player moving forward.

Arizona would've had another E8 this past season if not for that lucky Aaron Craft shot.

im talking about off the map "elite"...

maybe they are on their way back... but they certainly arent there yet. syracuse is there and has had great recruiting while there. no reason to be putting arizona higher at this point. that is a slap in the face. no debate.

and sorry... decade was a little off. but quite clearly a pedestrian 8 years. with the last 4 years including only 2 ncaa births... again - no debate.

and only 80 win the previous 4 years.

I'd have JB above the 2 guys directly above him there. The other guys? You could get into a debate about Cal for sure. But the other guys ahead of him all have excellent arguments.

To me, I would have a bigger issue with the stability rating. They've got Duke at 8.5 and SU at 8.4; I'm not going to quibble with a tenth of a point, but I guess that is a nod to the fact that both coaches are getting up there in years? We already know who is going to replace JB though.

Just playing around with the numbers, if you changed SU's coaching ranking to equal UK's, we wouldn't move a spot in the rankings. If you changed it to match K/Izzo/Pitino (which I don't think I'd do, but just saying) they'd move to 6

I agree the stability ranking to me is the most puzzling. Has any program had more stability than SU? Duke just lost long-term assistant Collins also. Which of the other programs mentioned even have a replacement strategy? I also think SU's coach ranking (which includes the staff) is low. Surprised also about Bo Ryan's ranking. His strategy keeps his team competitive but that same strategy limits his ability to recruit high profile players which in turns limits the team's ceiling. I don't think he's as good a coach as Beilein either.

I look forward to seeing how Hop does when he takes over. but if that were not to happen for some reason I'm not nervous at all. There are plenty of other options within or with ties to the program. Personally I think GMac is going to be a heck of a coach some day. Autry also. A great many of you don't remember a young inexperienced gawky looking inexperienced former player that took over the program in 1976. I guess my point is JB wasn't always a HOF coach but his first few teams from 76-80 were pretty damn good and very entertaining. No worries.

We can agree to disagree. Those last 2 NCAA berths for Arizona were a few plays away from a F4 and Elite 8. I agree that they shouldn't be ahead of Syracuse but I wouldn't call it a slap in the face. Moving forward who knows. I disagree with pedestrian as well.

If K were to step down one day, who do you think would be #1 on Duke's wish list?

1 - Collins
2 - WoBlow
Wildcards - Amaker and Dawkins who by the way are the most experienced and are every bit the Dookies that Collins and WoBlow are. In fact Amaker may be #1 now that I really think about it.

If Dawkins becomes more successful at Stanford or Collins if he makes Northwestern relevant. I don't think Amaker is in the immediate mix anymore for some reason and won't be unless Dawkins and Collins totally flame out.

If i had to guess, the low (relatively) stability rating is based on the fact that JB is going to be gone in a few years. (Ditto Duke). You can make the argument that Pitino/Cal/Roy/Self/Izzo aren't going anywhere in the next 3-5 years

Until Cal gets caught. And then he'll jump to the NBA lickedty split.
