Celebrating 25 years ago and the game of games

The 1992 team finished 10-2 and was ranked 6 or 7th depending on what poll you follow.

It was a great year punctuated by what I believe was the best defensive slugfest and maybe the best overall game ever played in the dome. It may have been also the loudest game in Dome history. The November 21st game against undefeated and top ranked Miami Hurricanes featuring soon to be Heisman trophy winner Gino torreta was for my money the ultimate classic game ever played in the dome.

The fourth quarter which featured a stunning display of toughness by MarVin Graves that cemented his place as an all time great. Of course people could talk about him hurling on the field but he went toe to toe against the best defense that ever stepped in the dome in my opinion.

We all know how that game ended but it's a game I will never forget.

Here is hoping that in the year that the canes return to the schedule albeit a road game that we once again see a game at the dome that could rival thst game. That we once again in a game at the dome we have a qb cement his legacy as an all time great. And that once again we see a Syracuse team that can go toe to toe with anybody and in any kind of game whether it be a wide open race down the field score at will or and ol fashion slobber nocker like November 21st 1992 that we leave that game going damn I got my money,s worth today while smiling all the way home.

That was the game that I became an SU football fan. I had followed the team here and there, but 14 year old me decided he was going to be "different" from all of my friends, and root for Nebraska. I remember the game being so hyped that I was really excited to watch it. Started watching it at my aunt and uncle's house. Forced my parents to turn the game on while we drove home, and then finished in my living room. I was crushed that they lost, but the way they played, and the way the crowd was like a sentient, alive thing that night made a huge impression.

Four years later I bought season tickets and kept them through the McNabb years until I moved away from the area. I saw a lot of amazing games in the dome in both basketball and football, but that game was the one that showed me what it meant to be proud of Central New York. I'll never forget the sideline reporter showing a decibel meter and telling people the real life equivalent of the field noise that night. I thought to myself "those people are from here. We mean something to everyone around the country tonight. People know who Syracuse is!"

It was an exhilarating thought for a young teenager who thought snow was the only thing anyone knew us for!

Great post. I was at that game with my wife and daughter. Yeah, it was LOUD. We had Miami fans behind us who got really quiet in the fourth quarter, when it looked as if we might pull the upset. I was whooping it up! I remember you could hear a pin drop at the end of the game with us on their 5 yard line as the clock expired. People didn't leave their seats quickly, at all. Like us...they just sat stunned and silent...after witnessing a truly heroic comeback by our beloved ORANGEMEN. Best game I have seen in person.

I was living in Seattle so wasn't at the game. I clearly remember lying on my floor for what seemed like an hour after Gedney got tackled short of the goal line. I was in so much pain but so damn proud of them at the same time. Great great team we had that year

Yeah, new turf was in place for the much-hyped 1993 team, so we got to see some tremendous beatings of the home team (West Virginia comes to mind) on a brightly-colored new field.

I always wonder what ifs...if Macpherson doesn't get the Patriots job in 1990, how long do we reasonably think he stays as HC of Syracuse? Was he angling to get out no matter what or was the patriots job the only one he wanted? Does 1993 end better, does P go on to coach at UConn before Skip Holtz? My guess is he hangs it up 1995-1997 range.
