I don’t post on here much at all, but was thinking this morning that the Dome could be looking pretty bleak when we play UNC on Feb. 21st.

Would there be any interest in trying to raise money and send local kids to their first ‘Cuse game? Nunes Magician has done a similar effort for bowl games in the past with great success.

I know this season has not gone the way anyone would like, but my hope is to create a positive moment in the midst of all this.

We also have the chance to get a sellout crowd and show a big audience on ABC what Syracuse basketball truly is. To me, that’s much more fun than moping around for the next few weeks.

For context, I am a former Syracuse-area reporter and SU grad currently living in DC. I’d be happy to coordinate this. But want to gauge interest before setting up a GoFundMe.

Haha, but in all honesty: I used to volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters, and when I would take my little to college basketball games, the product on the court was 100% irrelevant. He was just happy to be there and we had a ton of fun.
Jokes aside, I think this is a great idea. I'm not local but would definitely donate to the cause. Keep us updated.

Do they still have all kinds of games and activities for kids in the back half of the Dome? I haven’t taken my kids to a game in a few years, but there was a giant Jenga they loved playing. If they still do stuff like that, I could see kids having a good time regardless of the game.

Plus we always seem to have a lot of UNC fans in central NY…we can help the kids on their way to being fans of a college they’ve never within 350 miles of…

I would definitely contribute!

Could be a cool idea. I suggest you work with the SUAD on it.

If I recall correctly, there was a good deal of agita when the Nunes site did something similar for the Texas Bowl. It wasn't entirely clear who handled the money, how many kids went, etc.

Best to make sure everything is perceived as above board.

Thanks. I’ll keep tabs on the response and if there seems to be enough support I’ll move forward.

Thanks for the tip. I’m going to gauge interest this weekend and reach out to them Monday. I’d rather not go the GoFundMe route and see if people can just donate/purchase tickets directly through the athletic department.

I love this idea. I was just thinking about how depressing this season and lame duck coach has become. Another idea: I was again reading about the women’s team, who’s 17-4 and playing great, entertaining basketball, and should be a force in the post season. If you’re sick of the men’s basketball product put out by Red and his gum-chomping staff, head up to the Dome (for even just one game!) to support our own hometown hero Felisha Legette Jack and give them a boost in both attendance, gate revenue and hopefully NIL resources. She says she needs it to get good players. If you don’t want to watch losing basketball, please go support her.
