Sagarin Rankings

We are Top 100!!! Coming in at 99th. Which is LAST in the ACC, LAST of the Northeastern P4s, next to LAST in the P4, and sadly now 2nd in NY State. Our SOS is 14th. We have two Top 20 teams on our schedule, and six Top 30. But we only play two teams between 31st and 74th. But we only play one team outside the Top 85.

The ACC has only one Top 20 team, but there are 9 teams between 21st and 45th. But also has a team (Miami) ahead of every SEC team!

The SEC has 0.0 Top 6 teams!!! But seven of the Top 13, and the worst team is only 56th.

The B1G has three of the Top 4, but has six teams worse than the SEC's worst.

The Sun Belt has the highest G6 conference leader, and CUSA has the lowest ranked conference leader.

I would like to play Northeastern G6s OOC. Temple, Buffalo, Delaware, UMass (worst FBS team) are all outside the Top 120. Navy, UConn, Army are all outside the Top 65.

Same for the Northeastern P4s. Rutgers, West Virginia, Maryland are all outside the Top 55. Only Penn State is highly ranked.

1. Ohio State
2. Notre Dame (highest with a L, highest with 2 Ls, highest on our schedule, highest private)
3. Indiana (2nd B1G)

5. Texas Tech (1st B12, 2nd highest non B1G)
6. Miami (1st ACC, 2nd highest private, 2nd highest we played)
7. Bama (1st SEC)
8. UGA (2nd SEC)
14. Penn State (highest Northeastern)
15. Utah (2nd B12)
21. SMU (2nd ACC)
22. Tennessee
25. Clemson (3rd ACC)
27. Louisville (4th ACC)
28. James Madison (1st SBC, highest G6)
30. Pitt (5th ACC, 2nd Northeast)
31. USF (1st AAC, 2nd highest G6)
33. North Dakota State (highest FCS)
34. UVA (6th ACC)
37. GA Tech (7th ACC)
40. NC State (8th ACC)
43. FSU (9th ACC)
45. Duke (10th ACC)
47. Montana State (2nd best FCS)
53. Toledo (1st MAC)
56. Miss State (worst SEC)
57. Wake (11th ACC)
58. Boise State (1st MWC)
59. Rutgers
62. Washington State (1st PAC)
69. Navy (highest Northeastern G6, highest Service Academy)
70. Cal (12th ACC)
72. VA Tech (13th ACC)
74. Stanford (14th ACC)
75. UConn
78. BC (15th ACC, 2nd worst P4 and FBS we played)
82. West Virginia
84. Maryland (2nd worst Northeastern P4)
85. UNC (16th ACC, worst P4 and FBS we played, 2nd worst we played)
92. Army (2nd Service Academy, 1st in NY State)
97. Western Kentucky (1st CUSA, worst G6 leader)
98. Purdue (worst B1G)
99. Cuse (last in the ACC, 2nd NY State, worst Northeastern P4, 2nd worst P4)
106. Air Force (worst Service Academy)
122. Okie State (worst B12, worst P4)

246. UMass (worst Northeastern FBS, worst FBS)
264. Davidson (2nd worst team)
265. Stetson (worst team)

I think for the P4 you should rank teams based off of P4 Ws. Then FBS Ws. I think that is fair enough.

It forces you to actually play real teams. FCS games hurt you as it could mean the difference in ranking. If you have 9 P4 Ws and 2 FBS you will be ahead of a team that has 9 P4 Ws, 1 FBS, and 1 FCS.

Also P4 Ls don't really hurt you. A team that plays 12 P4 games and goes 9-3 will be ahead of a team that plays 9 P4 games and goes 11-1.

Not sure how you place the G6s though in the rankings. I suppose you can keep them eye test cases.

Looking at the current Top 15 you would get...

1. Ohio State
2. Indiana
3. Oregon (+2)
4. BYU (+7)
5. UGA (-2)
6. Texas Tech (-2)
7. A&M
8. Notre Dame (+2)
9. Bama
10. Miami (+2)
11. Utah (+4)
12. Ole Miss (-6)
13. Oklahoma (-5)
14. Vandy
15. Texas (-2)

After the CCGs you would have a Top 4 of B1G Champ, B1G runner up, B12 Champ, and SEC Champ. Oregon would be the 5 seed. Miami would be the last team in. The big losers here are Ole Miss and Oklahoma. BYU is the big winner.

These SEC teams get away with playing only 8 conference games and no one OOC. That changes next year when they go to 9 conference games. Which would make the above system even more fair.

Is Notre Dame out?

Even if Bama loses they will stay ahead of Notre Dame?

If BYU wins, then ND is the first team out. If BYU loses do they drop below Miami? In which case how do you keep Miami one spot behind Notre Dame, a team they beat head to head? Also it back doors the ACC into the playoffs should UVA lose. Or it could give the ACC two teams!

Would ND missing out force them into a conference?

Why should a team be punished for making it to their conference championship game and losing? There’s no point in even playing in the conference championship if a loss automatically knocks you out of the playoff. That completely ruins the stakes and purpose of the conference title game.

Who are you talking about BYU? They are outside right now so losing wouldn't knock them out.

What a joke. Bring back the BCS. Corruption is the only reason to have Bama rise in the rankings.
The reason Alabama moved up is because they went for it on 4th and 2 and showed they are aggressive. The committee said this yesterday.

That isn't a reason to move a team up. It is stupid. The fact that they need to do that should be the bigger story. Notre Dame lost a game because of a bad snap on a PAT should we move them to 5th?

Back to the King's original comment you replied to. What a joke.

Strength of schedule matters

Then Bama should have been ahead of ND weeks ago. That is the issue. Not that they are ahead but that they jumped on this last game.

SOS can be biased too. Bama has played 10 P4 games going 8-2. Notre Dame has also played 10 P4s, also going 8-2. Bama played a bad G5 and an FCS. While ND played 2 of the better G5s. So if you look under the hood, I don't see a stronger schedule top to bottom. Notre Dame has no good Ws but also no bad Ls. Bama has a bad L, but they have one good W and one great W. That is what should put them ahead.

The problem is the committee dropped Bama below ND for losing to Oklahoma. They shouldn't have. They corrected that mistake this week but there was no reason to do so which makes them look dumb.

How did they have only one good win? They beat Missouri on the road — a fully healthy team, by the way. They also beat a ranked Vanderbilt team and dominated Tennessee. And yes, who you play and when you play them absolutely matters. I do agree, though, that the committee should have had Alabama ranked ahead of Notre Dame from the start.

That's the problem, they flipped them because of last week.

So last week they just didn't know what they were doing, but now they got it right? It can't be about Auburn. They're 5-7 and the only team with a winning record that they beat is Mercer.

They shouldn't even release these, just wait until the end.

you cant flip Ala/ND off what happened last week. They were either better or not before that. By flipping them now they make it much easier to leave Ala in if they lose to GA no matter the score.

12 game seasons some good wins and losses by either team

You can win and play poorly as well

Ala also played UL Monroe/E Ill so throw those out, so In reality the 2nd GA game still means the schedule is one game easier than NDs

They played at a high level
vs GA win
vs Vandy Win
vs Tenn Win

Played OK
vs Mizz win
vs Wisc win
vs LSU win
vs OK loss

Played poorly
vs USCar win
vs FSU loss
vs Auburn loss

ND
High level
vs Miami loss
vs Tex AM loss
vs Purdue win
vs Ark win
vs Boise win
vs NC st win
vs USC win
vs SU win
vs Navy win
vs Pitt win
vs Stan Win

Played ok
BC win

Why isn’t Miami in the ACC title game exactly?

Because the ACC didn't have any foresight. To protect the conference the multi team tie breaker should be ranking. Which means Miami goes. Or at the very least create a mini conference. In which case Duke comes in last. Instead they created a tie breaker which sent the least deserving team to the CG.

We are going to the conference championship!!!! ;)
