CFP to remain at 4 teams through 2025 season

No to the service academies.

Some combo of Memphis, East Carolina, Boise State, USF, Fresno State, San Diego State, Temple, SMU, Colorado State, Tulane, UNLV, Liberty, UConn, New Mexico.

Edit

These below 50 teams don't belong in the top tier. Let them take the top 35 or so FCS teams and create a new D1-A (around 90 teams) with the FCS becoming D1-AA once again (around 100 teams). Leave the D1-P5 at only 80 teams.

So I took your pool and filled them into the open slots with the future realignment. They work out quite nicely. You can move Liberty, Memphis, ECU, Temple, USF around.

This predisposes that any bowl game that is not a CFP is worthless, that’s the problem. FBS football is about the bowls, it’s literally in the name. When teams go to a bowl game the fans get to see that extra game, and hopefully won’t be getting blown out by some SEC team with infinitely more resources.
Not worthless - but worth less. The amount of eyeballs will tell the story. More games that matter is good for CFB.

If 2 SEC teams keep making the 4 team playoff, I’d prefer more chances for them to lose or at least see teams from other conferences have a bite.

Liberty isn't ready yet. Temple isn't either. The ACC will take Notre Dame and Cincy

If the 4 best teams are in the SEC, then they should take all 4 spots.

Agreed. But that has nothing to do with what I wrote.

I don't think we will see those.

The 1st move is Notre Dame. I think they chose the ACC over the B1G. Then the ACC should take UCF but I think that they go with Cincy as #16. T

he B1G needs 2 schools and takes Kansas. They then target Mizzou who I think rather be with Nebraska. Kansas, Illinois in a MW conf then an outlier in the Southern conference and with Oklahoma. If Mizzou says no then the B1G goes for Colorado IMO. Should they say no wanting access to California, then I think the B1G goes for SU. But I think Mizzou takes the offer so the B1G sticks it to the SEC.

The SEC needs a team now. They could counter and go for Cincy to stick it to the B1G but they are too far North. As are K State and West Virginia. I don't think NC State budges and ECU isn't good enough. I don't think a 3rd Texas team will be considered so no Baylor. There is Okie State which is the fall back option. UCF would make sense as well. But I think they go after FSU or Clemson. In the end I think it is FSU.

The ACC now needs another team and I think they take UCF here. If Clemson left then I think WV is the pick.

The P12 wants to move East so they go after Texas Tech and Houston. UNLV makes sense market wise. That leaves one spot. If Okie State is available (don't go SEC) then it is them. If not, then I think it will be Boise State.

The B12 will be left needing a lot of schools to get to 16. I think Memphis, USF, SMU, Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State make the cut for sure. Then I think ECU, Temple, and UConn fill out the conference. Tulane, Liberty, New Mexico get left behind.

ACC
Adds: ND, Cincy, UCF
Losses: FSU

B12
Adds: Memphis, USF, SMU, Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State, ECU, Temple, UConn
Losses: Cincy, UCF, Texas Tech, Houston, Okie State

B1G
Adds: Kansas, Mizzou
Losses: None

P12
Adds: Texas Tech, Houston, Okie State, UNLV
Losses: None

SEC
Adds: FSU
Losses: Mizzou

Left to D1-A
Tulane, New Mexico, Liberty

Edit
UConn could choose to stay in the Big East and give up on Football. In that case I think Tulane is taken. But they might fear the P5 breaks away in BBall as well. Although if that did happen I think the Big East is invited given they too go to 16 (likely adding Gonzaga). Which gives D1-P5 96 BBall teams which is enough for a 68 team tourney.

Ha Ha...it was hypothetical

Nobody knows what cfb will look like in 10 years let alone 5 years...but the ACC probably has UCF, USF, Cincy, WVU on speed dial ready to come if needed.

Every time I read your realignment/playoff/schedule scenarios.

Much respect.

Your arrogance led you to let Brian Kelly leave, we'll see how that works out for you.
A $9.5 million dollar a year for ten years deal from LSU led Kelly to leave, not "arrogance".

ND wasn't going to give him that deal.

He is a good coach but he looked at other jobs and would lobby for a raise almost every year. ND had just signed him to an extension a couple of years ago.

Jack Swarbrick was pretty tired of this act by Kelly. There would have been no counteroffer from ND and Kelly knew it.

Kelly had a good 12 year run as far as wins/losses. He did little to cause ND fans to like him, otherwise.

I think that ND is going to do just fine under Marcus Freeman and his staff.

He has assembled a pretty good, well respected staff.

He is recruiting to a higher level than Kelly, at least so far.

He was instrumental in obtaining and saving/retaining a #7 ranked recruiting class this year.

Next year's class is ranked #1 right now (9 commitments).

(Kelly's classes averaged around the 11-14 range or so)

Freeman has personally recruited more five stars in one year than ND had signed since 2014.

Time will tell, but there are reasons to think that Freeman will be pretty successful at ND.
