Okay so, for my first post, I figured I'd show everyone why I'm so excited about this season, probably more excited than I have been for a few years now. Right now it is looking like Cuse can get that overall seed, even if Arizona was to stay ahead of us in polls. Just gonna throw some rankings out there. Cuse is currently #2 in RPI, barely behind UMass. #10 in BPI. #1 in BPI vs top 100 teams. 4-0 against top 50 teams. 7-0 against top 100. Also a non-conf SOS of 29, compared to Zona's 100. And what I think is the most telling of them all, Cuse's opponent's SOS is a 25, compared to Zona's 96.

I've noticed a lot of the teams we've played against have been playing other good teams, but that really looks nice on their tournament resume. I had no idea the opponent's competition had been just as good as our own. Not only have we been playing better competition, but the teams we've beaten have been playing better competition. Also, I saw the other day that Cuse has the #1 Offense according to KenPom's efficiency ratings, scoring more points per 100 possessions than any other team in the country. I know Jimmy doesn't like mathematical forumals and numbers, but the committee sure does, not a bad way to start the first half of the season. In fact, I don't think we could have asked for a better start.

I'm not too concerned about the #1 overall seed over AZ simply because if they get it they will be out west. We want the 1 seed in the east because it means Buff/MSG and that gives us the best possible chance to advance to the FF. I do agree though as of right now numbers wise we would be first on the S curve and don't need to be ranked number 1 to get the overall 1 seed. The best news is teams like Duke, Lville, UNC, Nova ect have played in a way that gives us a great chance at being the 1 seed In the east over them.

i'd highly recommend this book

Welcome to the board. Continue posting, but I agree with Jordoo #1 overall doesn't matter as much as the 1 seed in the East does. BTW, your board initiation was completed with getting Tee'd up which you were Congrats!!.

he's 1 for 1 his ratio is better than mine . . . . . of course I've been around long enough to post a lot of stupid things.

I'm just happy that we got through the tough part of the schedule unscathed now onto conference play . . . . . . . . how weird is that.
Never had a doubt.

]1) 28-3
2) 15-3
3) 3-0
4) 5-1

Hey there and welcome to the board and congrats on a nicely written and well thought out post. Strap yourself in and make yourself comfortable because now that you are officially a member of the board and a Syracuse Basketball fan... you are in for one hell of a ride as we march toward our 2nd National Championship this year!

Welcome to the board. Having Arizona out West and Cuse in the East makes much more sense for the NCAA (because remember it's all about student athletes and not money).

Easiest road to the Final Four is through Buffalo and MSG. If we get placed in the East region as the top seed I really love our odds going to the Final Four, and I don't care who thinks we're playing a home game.

As the Captain, I'd like to officially welcome you aboard! You'll enjoy this board, learn new terms, possibly even get to talk to a player's parent, and most importantly join in the search for Mantonio(our version of Billy Edelin)! Heck, if he is dead maybe you can replace him. That reminds me, earlier I saw a thread title dedicated to that question and am going to seek it out after this post.

Like my 2 or 3 sons(you wont get that unless youve been a lurker) already said, getting number one in the East may be more important than number one overall. As Jordoo(one of my 3 SOBs) pointed out, what really helps us is other teams that logically would be a fit for the #1 seed in the East to lose. But there is SOOOOOO much basketball left to be played. Can you imagine how many other #2 ranked teams at this time in the season had similar notions and didn't end up with even a #2 seed??? These boards are about logic and right now logic might pencil us in for a championship. That said, the course of a season, or even a tournament, can kick logic to the curb whimpering like a hooker who is nearing retirement age.

Expectations are important, but dont forget all of the teams behind us while focusing on the one team in front of us. Arizona could end up a 3 seed somewhere, but that doesn't necessarily help us achieve our goal. Unless we can buy those Kentucky t-shirts as I've been hoping, we have a lot more to worry about than the Wildcats. If I were a female, I'd compare the Orange/men to a man I'd come home to who had shat the bed on occasions, but overall made up for it in so many other ways that those times were acceptable, even when completely unexpected. But as a fan we have to be ready for this. Kentucky had(HAS) great expectations too, and as a fan my defense mechanisms have been conditioned by experience. Maybe I have been drinking too much Night Train, but if I had my way Id make sure everyone could avoid the hurt I've experienced in life. I mean heck, if we deserve the #1 overall seed then we should win the championship as well, right? Don't get me wrong, your logic was great, but I'm trying to absorb a tiny bit of your pain right now, in the event we dont win it all.

EDIT: I tend to go off on tangents when I've been hitting the bottle and when I'm sober, but I wanted to assure you that I enjoy your enthusiasm, your logical analysis, and would welcome you aboard even if I didn't. As you can see, many on here agree with you that we should have a number one ranking right now. We all draw a sense of pride from our team, and we've been blessed to have such a team to call our own. As a 315er, I suspect you aren't jumping ship anytime soon.

Unrelated... As for that WII curling challenge video, it reminds me slightly of that dance Beavis and Butthead used to do

Syracuse is the #1 overall now, but if any team goes 15-3 in b10 they will likely get it.

Does the overall number one seed even mean an easier path? I remember Kansas in 2010 got a number one overall seed and had a really tough bracket. Although they did fall to the mighty Northern Iowa Owls that year.
