Chino

Actually he's more like a poor man's Dave Siock (for those who remember 1990-93). 6'10 240. Big. Slow. Career 1.9 ppg/ 1.8 rpg.
Blast from the past!

He did play in the Jordan regional game with Roberson. He also got scholly offers from a bunch of major d1 programs (Texas, Nova, W. Virginia, Oregon, Temple, Miami ...). He is raw but don't write him off yet.

What happened to the Pete Newell Camp? Did the NCAA get rid of these camps run by coaches? I know that Lebron has his skills camp but that only involves 20 college players (top guards/slashers) and Durant has his skills camp for wings. Is there anything for big men?

Players get better by playing other good players. I remember during the 80s to the early 2000s big men were progressing tremendously from what they learned in this camp. I know that Seikaly and Forth improved tremendously from the experience of working with the best big men out there.

Surprised no team or NBA player has taken advantage of this opportunity.

Rautins played in 35 games as a soph and scored 252 points. Chino played 7% of all possible minutes and wasn't allowed to touch the ball.

They're not remotely the same and frankly a lot of people over exaggerate Rautins hatred.

No they don't. It was tangible, and it was asinine.

Does anyone know what the status is on his NCAA appeal of the NCAA taking away one of Chino's years of eligibility. How many years of elegibility does he have left 2 or 3?
Any chance we can appeal to have the NCAA take away more than one year?

I think his ceiling is a Jeremy McNeil type of role. Play physical and use his fouls while he is in there to give the zone some teeth. Anything above and beyond that is gravy.
That worked pretty well in 2003 when McNeil came off the bench to contribute key minutes and some good D.

Chino should be spending the entire offseason working on speed and agility drills. He moved painfully and awkwardly slow in the limited times he was out on the court this year. Quick lateral movement is crucial for defending in the zone.

Send this guy to the Pete Newell camp! ; )

JB and the staff picked him for a reason. Time will tell but I have faith in the staff's judgement and I think Chino has more to offer than most folks here have given him credit for. He certainly has a higher Basketball IQ than Fab did. He seems to have better hands than Baye had. I know that may not be saying much... but hey, it's a start.

One thing is nearly certain and that's we'll need him to some degree for sure and perhaps ( if circumstances turn downward for any of a variety of reasons) quite a bit. I'm hoping he shows a substantive jump in his playing prowess this coming season.

Fab was pretty awesome his second year here. I don't think that's fair.
