Bullough may be even better next year. I know that won't be conventional thinking, but he has a system that will get better as the players have more experience with it. We'll see if that is right.

Actually, I don't think so. He is very tight with CB and he always says that he "let's his coaches coach." I believe him.

I agree with Crusty here. I believe they just run very similar schemes, and honestly Bullough might be better. Would have been great to see how well his D would have done this year with a better O to keep them off the field and a slightly better secondary.

How much of our D is HCSS v Bullough? My money is that HCSS plays a significant role in the D.

Either way, given who our HC is, our DC's job should be to recruit. Anything else is diminishing returns. However, we need an OC that does pretty much everything. There's a lot of low-hanging fruit there.

I agree with this, and was a reason I was projecting 2015 as our "breakout year". We lose guys like Reddish, who will be tough to replace, but at other spots like DE it could be addition by subtraction. We lose Cam, and Dyshawn, but the guys waiting in the wings are just as, or more athletic. Bullough's defense will strive with more athleticism. That's what is waiting in the wings.

I think that's obvious by the improvement they made this year. Last year there was a lot more confusion than there would've been if it was still primarily HCSS defense.

In fairness I think a lot of that was addition by subtraction. We made strides in the second half of last year after he inserted Kelly into the lineup ahead of Wilkes.

It was also during the same time Shafer was rumored to have taken a larger role in game planning, as well as dumbing things down a bit.

Kelly never passed Wilkes on the depth chart.

Sure he never passed him on the depth chart, but he played the majority of the snaps.

That's not what you said. Wilkes started every game. He played early downs and came out in passing situations.

He's done a very good job especially since the offense has struggled and SU has been losing the field position battles. Today (BC) will be an another big challenge for the D.

Some of it may have been personnel, but I don't think much of it was Shafer, at least this year. In an interview, Bullough said everyone is more comfortable with their roles in year 2 of the system. I believe him.
