What a team Luke Fickell has built at UC...big and tough on defense and solid on offense. Would think the Bearcats could be considered for ACC membership if future expansion is warranted giving a much needed northern school to the mix. CUSE/UC had some great games in the past.

wouldn’t mind making a trip to Cincinnati for some skyline chili and graeters ice cream

This cinci team absolutely dwarfs us physically. Their All conference left tackle goes out, subs in a 6'9 350 pound back up. Were no where near that

There is simply no excuse for SU football not being on par with UC in terms of talent and coaching.

When Dino was hired I was thrilled with his personality & offense but after watching this game today and seeing what Luke Fickel has done with the UC program we obviously hired the wrong guy.

Dino won 10 games in the ACC two years ago

And unlike a school in Ohio he cannot simply cast a net for kids in upstate NY like you can in Ohio.

Agree the Cincy area is filled with quality D1 kids...but lets be honest Luke Fickell has done a tremendous job at UC.....would love them to join the ACC (also a solid hoops program as we know), can we trade Wake for UC?

After watching Florida, now Georgia... maybe ND isn’t going to automatically be lambs to the slaughter today?

2019: 2 wins in the ACC
2020: 1 win in the ACC

I hope Dino proves me wrong in 2021 because I am like everyone else on this board a die hard fan. I have had SU football season tickets for 29 years (missing only one home game) but my enthusiasm for SU football is at an all-time low.

For first time ever I have scheduled a trip from mid-November thru Christmas Eve and I am not the least bit disappointed about missing one or two home football games.

I truly feel bad for the Athletic Department because I don’t know how they are going to be able to get the casual fan base to buy tickets after the 2020 season we all just witnessed.

This is such a tired argument around here. 2018 was clearly an outlier. We can’t hang our hats on a statistical anomaly. The facts are clear - 4 out of the 5 years that Dino has been here, the team has had a losing season. The last 2 have been GRob era levels of incompetence. I’m hoping that Shrader is the answer to get the offense moving in the right direction in 2021, but Dino has a lot to prove right now.

Florida and Georgia both had opt outs.

Cincinnati isn’t a bad team but they aren’t playing a full team plus Cincy wants it more.

That Florida squad on Wednesday was a shell of the Florida team. Their top 4 pass catchers and 2 starting DL opted out.

Because people will be happy to be able to actually go out and enjoy an event in public again.

Oh, of course, but Cinci is also missing one of their best players, and their All-Conference LT was ejected in the first half.

The CFP needs to be expanded because bowl games are meaningless, but all year Florida and Georgia talked about how talented their young guys are... well, one is losing late to Cinci and the other got rocked by OU with Trask playing.

Provides a glimmer of hope that Alabama destroying the SEC isn’t entirely a death sentence for ND.

Disagree. I think this year is the outlier. In 2016 and 2017 we were building up from the ground. HCDB injected excitement, and despite having a frosh QB and an injured QB those teams just felt like SU was capable of beating anyone again. That was huge. 2018 the team overachieved a little. But it showed what SU can do when healthy. 2019 the team underachieved a little. Yes injuries on the OL hurt but that team still should have made a bowl. Needed 1 more win. This past year was the anomaly. But I for one put zero weight on this past year. Too many variables.

It’s not even an argument it’s just a fact.

I’m 23 and Dino has the one season that sticks out head and shoulders above the rest since I’ve been old enough to understand what I’m watching. If 10 wins happens more than two or three more times in my life I’ll be shocked.

So no, I don’t think we hired the wrong guy as was stated above in this thread. Dino did something wildly impressive based on our limited history in the ACC and that gives him a longer leash, to me, before he’s considered a failure.

I’m still confident we can be a consistent bowl team under the staff we have now

Based on our recent performance, some of the other ACC schools may want to trade us for UC.
This year I've seen/read a lot of stuff from fan bases wanting us to get the boot from the ACC. Really depressing.

Are they not enthralled with our wild mediocrity in basketball miraged over by random deep runs in the NCAA Tourney and that one time we finished the season ranked 15 in the CFP rankings!?

I get what you’re saying, and I agree 2018 was exciting. I’ll even say 2016 and 2017 were more exciting than anything else we had seen up to that point.

But looking at just the 10 win season in a vacuum and ignoring everything else about Dino and his staff the last 2 seasons is what a lot of folks are doing to generate optimism. Recruiting has been bad, game prep has been bad, player development has been bad, in-game clock management and play calling has been bad, S&C has been bad.

I want it to work too - but some of those other things need to start improving before at least I can have some of that optimism too. This is all just my opinion and perspective, of course.
