Cincinnati vs. Georgia

What the hell did cinci just do there

This year I've seen/read a lot of stuff from fan bases wanting us to get the boot from the ACC. Really depressing.

Why? If SU is so weak, other teams should want SU in the league for easy wins.

That’s top 3 worst coaching decision I’ve ever seen to not run the ball there. It was 2 yards and 40 seconds no matter what. And maybe I’m wrong but those are the reasons why these teams don’t get the credit they deserve BC of dumb stuff like that and then they lose

Fickell clock management cost his team that game.
Cincinnati plays Notre Dame and Indiana next year if they go 13-0 they should make the playoff but they won’t go undefeated.

I will say Kirby Smart deciding to punt with 3 minutes instead of going for 4th and 3 from his own 41 was a dumb decision especially because he called a TO before punting but then Luke Fickell said hold my beer.

Both of them were morons. There is a reason Saban dominates

Oof what a gut punch as I watched the game with my 2 Bearcats. It goes to show that even good coaches aren't good at everything. Fickell is not and never has been a good clock and/or situational awareness coach. He will take the conservative approach to a fault. But then in the stupidest situations take a chance that defies all logic. He always has, every season. But even with the play call I put this squarely on the shoulders of Desmond Ridder. As QB he has to know to just keep the ball and stay in bounds are options 1 and 2. It astounds me that Desmond Ridder is mentioned as an NFL draft pick to say nothing about 2nd round I read somewhere.!? Eric Dungey is a better QB than Ridder. Before this season if you told most UC fans that Ridder was an NFL prospect the response would have been "you mean they finally moved him to WR?"

Oh well...at least it wasn't Syracuse! Happy New Year! Go Orange!

Georgia deserves some credit too they played a great 4th qtr.
JT Daniels got the $heet knocked out of him and still made some great plays. He's a gamer that will be fun to watch next year.

Florida and Georgia both had opt outs.

Cincinnati isn’t a bad team but they aren’t playing a full team plus Cincy wants it more.

That Florida squad on Wednesday was a shell of the Florida team. Their top 4 pass catchers and 2 starting DL opted out.
Cincinnati was missing their starting TB and 2 first team all conference DB's also. And then lost their 1st all conference LT to a bonehead targeting call in the first half. (The play was bonehead, not the call). But, yes UC wanted it more. Sometimes that just ain't enough.

Agree the Cincy area is filled with quality D1 kids...but lets be honest Luke Fickell has done a tremendous job at UC...would love them to join the ACC (also a solid hoops program as we know), can we trade Wake for UC?
UC and Louisville need to be in the same conference for their own sake, and mine!

It’s not even an argument it’s just a fact.

I’m 23 and Dino has the one season that sticks out head and shoulders above the rest since I’ve been old enough to understand what I’m watching. If 10 wins happens more than two or three more times in my life I’ll be shocked.

So no, I don’t think we hired the wrong guy as was stated above in this thread. Dino did something wildly impressive based on our limited history in the ACC and that gives him a longer leash, to me, before he’s considered a failure.

I’m still confident we can be a consistent bowl team under the staff we have now
Preach... if we had a halfway decent offense we are in a bowl this year

They want a stronger conference not a weaker one. They dont think that way.
But this argument is a football only argument and that is taking into account that we have been mediocre in men's basketball as you say, which I question would be cause for any movement when you consider that we've won some important games against Duke, UNC, UVA, Pitt... Not sure what more they could honestly want/expect. As fans, we want NCAA championships, but in reality, has NCState or UVA done more than us? Wake? BC? GaTech?

Now consider the overall athletics department. We've won the NC in Field Hockey, Cross Country, been in the Final Four in men's soccer, women's lacrosse, our men's lacrosse is returning to their almost unrealistic exceptional (Bama level) status, in a league that truly values lacrosse.

I believe people are making an argument, I just don't see that the argument has merit.

I mean I never said that, just replied that it's depressing that's the attitude and perception of opposing fan bases. I don't actually think we're getting the boot. I would guess they want us to be atleast competitve in football, and 2 winning records since joining the league 7 seasons ago isn't really a strong showing. Also, in terms of perception, Olympic sports and Lacrosse dont really move the needle even in a league that values it more than any other. I mean no one in the ACC ever shows appreciation for BCs hockey prowess. A competitve baseball team in this league may help, but those are different discussions for a different thread.

After watching Florida, now Georgia... maybe ND isn’t going to automatically be lambs to the slaughter today?
Florida and Georgia lost 6 games between them this year. Bama...zero. Not comparable.

I should have written “other teams’ fan bases”, not “other teams”.
I don’t care if fan bases don’t have a high regard for any Syracuse teams. I don’t think anybody should take this type of criticism seriously.

Syracuse has already beaten whatever teams these fans root for.

Wasn't attributing the rhetoric to you, but you are the messenger. You did bring up basketball, so you are muddying the waters some. Nobody talks about BC hockey because they don't play hockey in the ACC. They do play lacrosse and at the highest level for what I think is the fastest growing sport in the US. Soccer is also a top five sport and also among the fastest growing and they play that at a high level in the ACC too. It won't be long till they are moving the needle with flourishing pro leagues for each.

College football will be facing a lot more challenges in the not too distant future IMO and I don't think COVID-19 helped slow that in any way. That said, I agree that our "brand" is not what it used to be and we are falling out of relevancy slowly. I looked at a free 247 piece that "ranked" every program by all time winning percentage. It listed the top 50 and we were #49. Not good, especially when you see who is in front of us. I'm with you, these losing seasons add up.
