CJ

He has to work on 2 things. Better awareness on defense and ball handling so that he can create on his own better. He's great at being at the right place and the right time and being under control, but he needs a bit of KJo in him going to the basket with the ball to reach the star level.
I think we should call CJ - C3PO. Right place, right time. Even the announcer said it after his end of the half put back.

Part of that is Melo needs to learn when to go for the block & when to back off and go for the board. If he tries a shot block & doesn't succeed it leaves a rebounding hole in the middle.
Be nice if we had someone (with experience in playing the 5) who could work with the big guy for the rest of the season.

Man, talk about a kid who understands the game & just knows where to be. He goes for 12 & 9, absolutely 100% in the flow & forcing nothing. Big put back at the end of the half helped changed the MO. A couple of the fouls called against him were very ticky tack.

He even drained a trey & is looking solid & confident w his stroke.
He had a double-double:)

My only complaint about CJ is that he absolutely cannot make a shot that's not either inside of 4 feet or outside the three point arc.

He made only 1 three pointer last year. His ability to make it outside the arc makes him that much more of a threat. Last night Va Tech dared him to shoot a three and he made them pay. Very few players have a mid range game these days.

I simply cannot believe he put up a double double so quietly.

But not entirely his fault. Melo hesitated before going out to defend the high post. Fair fouled the guy that Melo abandoned behind him. As it turned out, they got no points on that trip and SU ended up with an easy break-away bucket off of the missed free throw.

Yeah, two tough possessions for him, though I thought the fouls weren't bad since the guy had an easy bucket otherwise. But that was the same play two times in a row.

his baseline j has been on too, but point taken, he only has a couple spots. what a star though, so much fun to watch on pretty much any possession, either side.

Agreed, his baseline jumper seems to be fine. I always think of him as having a good mid-range game, but he seemed to lack the three point shot last year. He seems to have added that to his repertoire. He still isn't take people off the dribble though, that's the biggest hole. No complaints though, love having him out of the floor.
