Clemson AD speaks...

Here is the first mention outside of WVU of Clemson, FSU, and ND to the Big 12 that I can find with this scenario being mentioned

http://cemetery-hill.com/2012-artic...aid-acc-clemson-fsu-and-nd-head-the-list.html

And it specifically links to Eerinsider "The Dude"

http://www.eerinsider.com/2012-articles/january/big-12-to-target-acc.html

Here is the Barking Carnival article on expansion with Clemson, FSU, and ND, again citing The Dude as the source:

http://www.barkingcarnival.com/2012/01/25/the-neinas-report/

Now maybe there was something prior to this, but all of the early reports link to The Dude's Eerinsider Reports and of course his article has no links.

Cheers,
Neil

Doesn't say much, but interesting nonetheless. Certainly makes the ESPN contract seem better than it is at first glance.

Also, there's a pretty interesting thread on a GT site - gojackets - that talks about Big 12 expansion. Their fans seem to be pretty committed to the ACC. Seriously, the Big 12 fans are incredibly funny/pathetic in how they have invaded various ACC message boards. I understand why Big East fans hate the ACC. I don't understand why the Big 12 fans suddenly hate the ACC. The only thing I can think of is the ACC's exposure on ESPN/ABC has upset the Kansas, KSU, TT, Iowa State and Baylor fans, since those schools generally have no football history to speak of and are stuck, and will continue to be stuck, on a Fox regional network...unless they play Texas and they get to be on the LHN.

The ESPN exposure is invaluable as it is national. The look in after 5 years to determine market conditions and success of the conference will also likely increase the payout if current trajectories hold for ACC teams.

Also, this is a pretty funny one act play I lifted from gojackets:

Big12 Fan: $20 million
Rational Person: Where did you get that figure?
Big12 Fan: Grant of Rights
Rational Person: Do you know what that means?
Big12 Fan: Tier 3
Rational Person: Explain that please.
Big12 Fan: Electronic Footprint
Rational Person: OK...explain that one.
Big12 Fan: Throws baby armadillo into swimming pool, head explodes.

If you asked me (I realize that you didn't), the problem with Clemson is that it is in South Carolina. South Carolina is the problem here. They are not team players in that state.

I humbly submit the following for your examination:

There was originally one Carolina Colony in colonial times. But the group in the southern part of the colony could not get along with the group in the northern part. They ended up splitting up into North Carolina and South Carolina circa 1712.

When the chips were down in the 1860s, who took their ball and ran away crying, becoming the first state to ever secede from the United States? South Carolina.

Who was the first school to leave the ACC? South Carolina. They left in a snit in 1971 after repeatedly getting caught violating recruiting regulations.

South Carolina has some great things going for it. Hilton Head Island. Kiawah Island. The most golf holes per capita in the US. Those weird animals that look 3/4 squirrel and 1/4 raccoon. But you can't trust her.

Also, the good folks from West Virginia think South Carolinians are stupid. That speaks volumes.

Thing is I can't one time recall saying to myself "oh, its just a WVU fan". Whether it be a forum, blog, article or twitter, I don't see WVU starting anything unlike when they were rumored themselves to be SEC or Big12 bound and that one female WVU fan was everywhere. Again, FSU and Clemson chatter started before WVU was Big12 bound.

In this case I need to disagree with you. Credible or not, even the writers at Mr.SEC recognize the WVU "Dude" as a major source of the FSU/Clemson to B12 rumors.

Add to the fact that each WVU fan appears born and raised to become an internet fan-board troll. Visit any ACC fan page and you're bound to find WVU trolls causing trouble by either starting or perpetuating rumors of a given team leaving for the B12
