Clemson Game Time Set for...Sunday Announcement

While here in Syracuse might feel otherwise the noon start on ESPN following Gameday is typically reserved for one of the top games ESPN can't put on Primetime for numerous reasons some conferences hate night games i.e. B1G, other conferences can't have home games on Primetime ABC i.e. the SEC and so if we were showcased as the 12pm ESPN game I would be happy because we would have a pretty large lead-in from the College GameDay audience, but obviously wouldn't have as large a crowd for numerous reasons. The ESPNU 3:30 slot is typically just another decent game on the ESPN menu and if we were given that slot it would mean ESPN doesn't really value Syracuse at all and are just putting the #3 team in the country on a national TV and its not as good a game as others. We don't have a chance in hell for ESPN or ESPN2 Primetime or ABC Primetime if SU is valued more by ESPN then we get the 12pm game if we are valued less then we get the 3:30 ESPNU IMO.

Very, very good point, but I'm still clinging to the hope we can get primetime. Boston College played a primetime night game in its ACC opener, granted they were #17 and were playing #8 Florida St., but hopefully ESPN sees the exciting QB we have and the energy its bringing to the team.

If we had beaten Penn State and Northwestern their is no doubt College Gameday would have come to Syracuse for our ACC debut game like they did for Boston College in 2005. I mean their is like a 1% chance we could get a night game, but extremely unlikely.

I would think that ESPN is waiting on FSU and not Miami. Maryland at FSU would seem to have more national prime-time appeal because of Winston (and the atmosphere at FSU being 1000 times better than that in Miami)

Hard to believe Boston College has hosted GameDay twice we never have. Hopefully that's soon to change.

Agree..have read that Miami prefers noon games for many reasons. Not that TV won't stick them at night, of course they will...but thing is I don't even see an open primetime slot available unless they split the primetime ABC game (Ohio st v northwestern already scheduled for ABC primetime - which splitting with east coast/southwest with an ACC game would not be unheard of).

As someone else put, willing to bet Miami @ noon, our game @ 330, and FSU v Mary split ABC national if everything holds serve this weekend as expected.

If you want to guarantee a 3:30 or 8 pm slot, you better dust off your VT and BC hats. They should be easy teams to cheer for, right? BC is going to get steamrolled, but can't sleep on VT, as bad as they've been playing.

I hold out no hope for USF beating Miami as they are a hopeless program right now.

I'm predicting a Nooner on ESPN, following Gameday. They can hype the game on the show a little bit, talking about how the 'Cuse is playing their first ACC game against the #3 team in the country. Now, with that said, this FSU/Maryland matchup is looking pretty good right now. ESPN may think they can get a bigger, national audience for that one. I think 3.30 is in play if they choose to do that. With all of this said, I don't think it'll be primetime. I think FSU/Maryland has a better shot.

All - UMiami prefers noon because it almost always rains - and the potential for lightning - in the late afternoon early evening down there (I use to have family there). I would expect ESPN to take that into account due to potential for game delays.

Strange and unlike us an afternoon/evening game can kill their attendance at the U. I too would expect UMiami to be the noon game.

This is one of those not so small things that could impact attendance. People who may jump aboard this week may now be forced to sit and wait because they are not sure about their schedule...by the time the announcement comes who knows about hotels and/or alternate plans that have arisen. Not a huge factor, but probably will affect at least a few people this week.

Hotels are long gone anyway... If I'm not mistaken it's homecoming weekend.

There weren't gonna be any rooms for last minute decision makers on this one.

In fact, I tried to get a hotel room for the Wake game back in July and it was nearly impossible.

Finally got one room for 3 people down in Armory Sq for $350/night

Just so you know Ohio State-Northwestern isn't set in stone for ABC it could be ESPN or ESPN2 primetime if ESPN wanted it that way. While I agree ABC is most likely it is just slotted in for 8pm that doesn't make it a guaranteed ABC game. I agree that the SEC will have 3 Primetime games that day Ole Miss-Auburn, Florida-Arkansas, LSU@Mississippi State, South Carolina-Kentucky with the non-Primetime game being the SEC co-GOTW at 12:21

This is life in a big boy conference when you play highly ranked teams.

No doubt it will impact some folks plans.

Unfortunate that the issue isn't that ~1,000 people will have to sell their tickets to someone else who can make it to a long-ago sold out Dome. And rather is hoping the unknown start time doesn't keep 1,000 people away, dropping our attendance to 80% capacity at best.

Oh well.

windows available on 10/5 are espn/2 or u at noon(please no),espnu at 330,abc/espn 2 330 or 8pm ABC

What! That's a rip off - you should still be able to get a room for $99-$129 a night!

northwestern-ohio state has been set for abc

I could've gotten a room for $150 a night or so, but it wasn't that close to campus and we're taking my dad who would rather walk than take cabs from the circle or father out.

When you take into account how many cabs we won't have to take - its not as expensive as you think... And that $350 is after all taxes and fees... It's the total cost.

Think you're right on the weather for Miami games this time of year, that's what I read that they do all they can to play earlier than later until like November. That said, TV owns it and while all schools make "requests"...tv will do whatever they want to maximize ratings, mother nature doesn't have as much power as TV contracts.

For years Clemson pushed back on Thursday night games...it's tough enough getting 80k in to our small town on a weekend, let alone a day when classes are going on. Finally had to have one again this year (been quite a while since we've had to host one before).

All this conversation about the lack of a starting time may very well drive up ticket sales. It's free publicity.

so 75% chance we aren't a nooner. that's encouraging.

I am hopeful of a nooner followed by a 3:30 start.
