Clemson opens -16.5 over Cuse…..

We sadly don’t do a good job getting to the quarterback even when we blitz. It’s why tremble is out there in a hybrid role. We clearly whiffed on pass rushers in the portal.
It's tough. People think the portal is just like the grocery store where you have needs and you just throw guys in a basket and check out.

Even though we're not great at getting to the QB when we blitz, we've got to have the threat, and shouldn't decide ahead of time the blitz will fail. This is college football. Teams make mistakes. I worry that we won't put ourselves in position to take advantage of those mistakes because we tend to play so passively on defense.

I like the take on the portal. I hate the I got candy, buy me and take me out mentality now.

Pre Fran Brown our portal shopping was more like a Soviet Union bread line.

I'm torn. I think it is 100% winnable because of Jeff Nixon, but I expect to lose badly because of Elijah Robinson. Hopefully the offense comes out firing on all cylinders after the tune up game and we can contain their offense to some degree. The point spread is telling. I assume it's because we tend to do pretty poorly outside of the Dome.
I think we did poorly in the dome even against Colgate... Of course Tennesee was a good and exciting game that we didn't go in thinking of winning, but UConn could have been better, and should have been... Colgate was horrible in a lot of ways too, but there was some good improvement and depth not seen after it was all cool, but still horrible to see some things. However, we all know the Clemson QB is an overrated player at the moment.

I'm not optimistic because I don't think we can be (at a minimum) neutral at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Wish I was wrong but that's the reality... we're not there yet with the big boys up front. That's where games are won and lost

Our linemen are big, but they seem to lack the nasty part.
Jobity had the right kind of crazy in his eyes, but now that he's bulked up a bit, he doesn't seem as effective. Maybe he lost a step. The Alabama kid has to start giving us more.

Yup... Also, about just stopping and standing still like I done my job but don't keep working... It's a team and a team keeps going mentality needs to start setting in. Lose one, then pick up the slack.

This might sound stupid, but if you are a defensive linemen getting pushed back, fall down and block the hole. It's not rocket science sometimes. Plug the hole.

Agree, I'm talking about offense, go forward... just you block your 'assigned' guy doesn't mean you shouldn't keep going and block as you go for a rush etc. Plugging the hole also sometimes is not apparent as it seems, but yeah everyone has a job to do and they can't see behind, but others on the side can and what I was referring to.

I've never been high on their QB Kubrick, and I think if Fran can get the team motivated on what Debo said about dumping the Cuse from the ACC, and we make something happen early in the game we have a fighting chance. My biggest concern is the O and D lines, but we hung in against TN. If we can score 30 I think we win this game. Boy would that be nice to rub it into Debo's face. We have nothing to lose so go for it! We are supposed to lose this game anyway. Maybe their QB struggles out the gate and gets pulled...a lot of pressure with a very disappointed fans base.
when did Swinney say something about dumping Cuse from the ACC? Any link? I'd like to read that.

Totally agree with that. They need time on the sled.

Two years ago in the Dome we played a 2-loss Clemson team that seemed wounded, and they pretty much pushed us around from start to finish. Gun to my head, I think we lose something like 42-17.

The Duke game is the crossroads of the season.
And about 7-8ish? years ago I didn't go to the Clemson game in the dome and gave my tickets to my boss... Duke will be a good game, and hope a fair one. ACC refs have been said to not been good to us, but I have faith of late.

IMO Tennessee beats Clemson easily. We have already been tested (beaten up) by an O line that just put up 500 on Georgia too! What can Clemson do to us that Tennessee couldn’t?

GT barely beat a bad Colorado team. Then handled Clemson.

If we get 375 of Offense like we did vs Tennessee, we have a punchers chance.

Our A game will beat Clemson’s B game but both those things have to happen.

In their last 9 FBS games they have averaged 21.8 ppg. With a high of 34, which was the only game over 27 points, which was vs a G6 and only other game over 24.

They have conceded only 23.3 ppg. But that is more than they have scored. Their low is 14 points.

They have played a lot of quality teams over that stretch. But looking at the above how can they be favored by so much?

I would also be thinking of taking the under but our style likely leads to a higher scoring game.

If our D gives up 22 points it will be above avg for the. In their last 10. If our D gives up 25 points it will be their 2nd best of 9 P4 games. If our D gives up 28 points it will be their 2nd best of the last 10. If our D gives up 35 points it will be their best. I think we will learn a lot about our D this game.

So if we scored a new low and conceded a new high, it would be 35-13 which barely covers the spread.
In those last 9 FBS games they haven't faced an ERob coached D though...

It is a moot point. ACC Refs, and given the current calls by FBS and others... how do you think it will go with questionable calls?

We would need to play flawlessly on offense to have a shot. I could see us scoring 28+ but I don’t see us allowing any less than 30 points. If I’m honest no less than 40+ for us to allow. I love Nixon but he is only one side of the ball.
