Syracuse coach Scott Shafer says he's excited to honor troops from Fort Drum at the Clemson game on Saturday

Shafer says a schedule that includes LSU, FSU and Clemson is a bit of a baptism by fire for his young team, but helps with growth.

Scott Shafer at his presser, reminds us Syracuse will wear "dress blues" as part of Veteran's Day honors this weekend.

Shafer: "Our mindset going into this is definitely major underdogs." Positioning it as an opportunity players.

Shafer on playing No. 1 Clemson: "It's is no doubt a David vs. Goliath situation and that's what you live for."

Shafer said initially he didn't think Syracuse would have a shot at QB signee Rex Culpepper. Had early offers from Clemson, UF and Ohio St.

Shafer said Syracuse has not received financial aid agreements from any other players. The team hopes to have a few more kids arrive in Jan.

Shafer on Dungey status: "If any of our players get green light from the doctor we'll play them if they're the best option for our team."

Shafer said he tells Class of 2016 kids who ask about job security that he wants to be here in future, has one year left on his contract.
