There was a play in a game I was wathcing yesterday where a lineman was blocking his man to the outsode and the back started inside, then cut outside . The blocked defedner turned to go after him and the lineman kept going with his block. He got claled for a clip.
My recollection is that clipping originally emant hitting a defedner from behind in the legs. At some point it was changed to any block in the back.
Is shoving a guy from behind really as dangerous as diving at his legs? Should above the waste clipping be a penalty at all? If so should it be a lesser penalty, like running into the kciekr vs. roughing the kicker?
