If you watch the CMU game against Purdue it is like watching Syracuse on O under Doug. They play a pro set power game. I can see Ryan and Smith behind center with SU trying to control the clock taking a shot down field once in a while to keep the D honest not making mistakes and playing to wear teams down in the fourth Quarter. That is CMU. It is imperative that we make them play from behind and force them to win the game through the air.

I think this is a huge game for how the season will play out.
I understand Villanova is a good team and it appears CMU is as well. I just hope we play with more consistency. More wrapping up on tackles, better play calling and big plays on offense and defense. I want to watch a team that plays like they know what they are doing, including the coaching staff. Make good decisions GMD.

Not only this game, but the entire season comes down to the key issues you raise.

After watching countless numbers of college football these past weeks, I really realized how poorly our play on offense was. Teams with much lesser talent look SOO much better then us on offense. I missed the offense when FHCDM was the coach after that nova game this year, we just looked out of rhythm and it was not good. I get that if this offense runs correctly it will be more points and run down the defense, hopefully we will pick up the offense this weekend. Because we need to. GO ORANGE!

I think the offense wasn't as bad as people think, we only had it like 7-8 times. Hunt scored on 2 of the 3, we had 2 drives started inside our 10. we scored on both drives in OT. The D needs to step up and give the offense a chance at more than 50 plays. it wasn't pretty for sure, but we didnt go 3 and out every time either. dropped passes a bad penalty a couple bad starting spots. it doesnt take much to look sluggish when you only have 3-4 drives a half.

Definitely some recency effect here. Marrone's last year was really the only season that the offense was any good.

Yes...and didn't we start off slow that year as well?

We had 500 or 600 yds in the opener without Lemon

That's right...must of gotten it confused with the other Marrone years
Yeah that season the offense was awesome out of the gate, but it got better as the year went on because it balanced out better.

The good thing about that is we are typically very good about pro-style, ground and pound offenses. We get in trouble against mobile qb's, teams that spread us out and throw it all over the field, and obviously the option. We did a great job against Minnesota last year, who is very similar, and probably more physical.
