CNY HS Football

While in Syracuse a few weeks ago, I saw a Liverpool HS football schedule on the wall at Heids. It showed 8 games with the season done by the end of October. Is that accurate?

Here in central Florida, the teams start play this week and play 11 or 12 games plus playoffs. Add to that a 3 week spring practice and a spring game every year. If you add that up over 4 yrs of high school that's a whole extra season they play down here.

Couple this with extra emphasis culturally on football plus 7 on 7 in the summer, I guess it's no surprise why the players are so advanced relatively.

Yes school budgets now have 8 game regular season games in section 3 .

1 scrimmage plus 7 regular season games.

There's the potential for up to 3 sectional playoff games in late October and early November, and 3 state playoff games in mid and late November.

State Finals are Nov 28-30 in the Dome.

A lot of it has to do with weather, while it's snowing here in CNY it's 70's and sunny in Florida allowing them to practice and do 7 vs 7 outside. Also, a reason why a lot of basketball talent comes from the northeast. When it's cold and snowy kids are in the gym more then when it's nice out.

True, I played at Liverpool and our regular season was only 8 games. Graduated in 89, the year after Gedney.

are you saying that they play more football in Florida than they do in New York? I am absolutely shocked by this news!

It also has to do with the school schedule. Most of the southern schools start school today or next Monday.

does anyone know what the regs are in nj for practices, summer participation and number of season games with playoffs??? i know they emphasize football much more than nys even the pop warner leagues are valued. i often wonder why they produce so much more talent than nys? i am sure happy about us getting back to nj recruiting. i am also high on nyc/long island players.
