Coach just admitted a mistake!

There's no issue here.
No matter what team you are...with the game on the line you want the ball in your best player's hands.
Period.

We didn't accomplish it with the score tied.
And we didn't do it for the last shot.
Yes, G is covered.
OF COURSE HE'LL BE COVERED.
Don't you set a play to at least try to get him a little room?

How often did Carmelo not bring the ball up when we needed it? Rarely! And if he didn't, he is just standing on the elbow sealing his man where it's impossible to not get him the ball.

Running G off screens to get the ball with a freshman PG when the entire stadium knows who the target is is just bad coaching. I dont get it.

Has JB stated, unequivocally, that G is our best player? I'm not saying this as snark. I really mean what I'm asking. Has he stated he believes G to be our best player?

Did he talk about not boxing out on that last free throw at all?

The stop of the press when we tied it was mind boggling.
Well it worked. Cause we did get the stop. The press can get you back into the game but it can also play you out of one. I would of stopped the press when we were down two.

Using this logic, why not stop down 4 or down 8.

Agreeing with Doris is something I rarely enjoy, but I think she was right.

There are times where you can tell the press is sort of helping in a flukey way because passes are there and the mistakes are self-inflicted, but Pitt seemed genuinely rattled and somewhat clueless. Making them increase the pace seemed to leave them out of sorts. I'm not sure it hurt us at all in this instance abandoning it, but calling it off seemed unnecessary. I can see the argument either way though I guess.

Because it's a one possession game with plenty of time to get a stop which we did. If it's a one possession game or tied why risk allowing them to get free from the press and giving up an easy layups or dunk.

Because maybe it allows us to get an easy layup or dunk.

Well it probably cost us a tourney bid.
This is a weird feeling to know that we probably won't get in. It has been so long...obviously we knew last year well in advance. Very disheartening.

You only have so much energy. I would have liked to do it for one more possession however.
The press has given up some pretty easy points this season...I feel like it has been a weak area all season. Probably didn't want to give up an easy one. I would have liked to see it longer since it clearly worked.

Haha! "Admitted" a mistake without changing the season-long narrative! So tired of Boeheim. Can we add a countdown clock for his retirement?

Ouch!

I always do what Jessica tells me!

In one of Torre's last years as the Yankees manager, he had gotten to be so stubborn with his pushbutton lineups that Brian Cashman had to trade guys away so that Torre wouldn't over-rely on them to do things that they weren't capable of doing.

He also had to create the Joba rules so Torre wouldn't run his new toy into the ground like he did with Scott Proctor, Tom Gordon, Mike Stanton, etc.

Unbelievable, JB has more fire in his press than he did for 38 mins. When you Coach a bad game, don't compound it by being an *** to reporters asking fair questions. I love JB, but sometimes he is plain rude haha. We wonder why we get no breaks when it comes to coin toss situations.

I hope JB's halftime speech was recorded so he can look back and know what NOT to say at halftime. The team came out of the locker room and played some of their worst ball of the season. As the announcer said, SU looked disinterested, or something like that. They had no fire at all. Boeheim had no fire. The camera goes to Dixon and he is fired up.

Similar pattern. Tallahassee was like that. More games also that I don't care to revisit.

Ever since the 1st FSU game we've looked dead.
- We slept walked through that Valentine's Day BC win.
- The opening 5 minutes vs. Ville
- G's game vs. NC State
- The furious rally's vs. UNC and today vs. Pitt for a grand total of about 10 minutes of game time.

We've only played with emotion for about 25 minutes since the FSU game on Thursday night at the dome a month or so back. It's like unless we're down double digits, there is no urgency. If it wasn't for G's career game, we would have lost to NC State too.

Yup on all points.

maybe this is mentioned in every thread elsewhere (haven't looked yet) but Cooney getting that inbounds pass was horrific

I get wanting him on the floor. the massive mistake was not having him inbound the ball

should have had TL and Robe setting screens for g and Mal to get free and Cooney would have been the trailer down the floor

I was under the impression all our second half runs were when we put Howard in. Pitt went on like a 9-0 run to take the lead at half by 3 then they were all of a sudden up 12 early in the second. I can't remember but it seemed we cut it from 12 to 6 three times with howard in and bad things happened when howard stopped looking to drive.

Typical grind basketball, we always stop pressing when we tie it or are up. I didn't mind it for a play because pitt was flustered, wish we had a 10 deep bench to play 10-15 solid minutes of press or man sometimes. College basketball has became a game of matchups and on and off nights, funny how the press made it feel that way.

Imagine a team starting slow when two bench players heat up at the end of the half, then they start slow in the second, and all of a sudden when those two bench players in you switch to aggressive tight defense on them and they start bricking everything. It would be nice to have that luxary to turn to, its so tiring watching these acc teams either body us to death on the perimeter or like pitt ride our body all the way to the rim but never get called for a body foul when bumping into us during layups. M2M defense gets away with so much bodying that its frustrating to watch a below average syracuse zone missing good recovery defense, and guys like Roberson, lydon can't drive as much against a defender right in front of them, while our opponents have some nobody with no dribbling skill go off for 17 against us.

I didn't really see any of the Pitt bumping or riding our body. In fact, they were called for more ticky-tack stuff than I would've expected. I don't think they are very good defensively this year.

What was truly disappointing was that they continued to give the one guy who had a hot hand open looks. I don't remember them doing anything special in terms of busting the zone up on those plays. Whether it was on Cooney, Frank, or Mal; it was a colossal fail in awareness.

Hard to blame Howard there.

JB is right -- in that spot don't get cute, just let Mike dribble it up and do what he has to do.
Diagree, that was not a pass where a defender made a great play. It was a casual give it away toss. Yes, Frank should not have been in the game at that point, but still the pass was simply pathetic even for a frosh in that situation. He is a scholie player - can't lose THAT much focus at crunch time.

Hard to blame one player on that play when all three players took the play too casual. Casual pass from Howard. Casual cut by MG didn't come towards the ball aggressively almost like he flattened out for a corner 3 the way he came off that down screen. Mike needs to come hard toward the ball and take the pressure off the freshman like a 5th year senior should. Also the down screen wasn't great by Lydon didnt screen the defender at all. Terrible play all around called from JB. Should have just given the ball to MG at the top of key and spread out and run screen roll.
