coach k criticized refs at halftime

The refs definitely marred an excellent game in the last 4 minutes with the missed baseline out-of-bounds and the second missed call on a monitor review of the Final Four. Absolutely mind boggling how they get these calls wrong after going to the monitor, especially in a Final Four game where there are twice as many camera angles as you'd normally have.

what i dont get is the broadcasting team clearly had the correct vantage point identified as it typically does. why can't they assist the refs and say, "hey, here it is. take a look."

When did K start giving halftime interviews again? i thought he was above that and delegated to his staff. :noidea:

Clearly he wanted to make sure everyone knew his feelings about the refs to that point. And funny enough, the tide turned drastically in the second half. Talk about whining working...

Love him or hate him, it can't be denied that Coach K is the G.O.A.T, IMO.
That was classic gamesmanship on his part and it worked perfectly.
If JB did that w/ the same results, he'd get a 10-page thread extolling his HOF virtues.
Don't hate the player, hate the game!

I think people give K too much credit. He can be just as much of a as any coach out there, but let's be honest people want to complain about Calipari, it's really K and Duke that are untouchable.

Vince Mcmahon would of been proud of the way that game was officiated. The worst part is one of the officials is a Syracuse resident(Pat Driscoll).

Winslow = The Human Charge

That's LeBron's big innovation - he basically brought charging to a whole new level.

Amazing how little self awareness people have.

The difference is there can be a strategy at halftime. Game is over its time for class. I agree with others that Coach K would never complain about officiating after a game. ...

I don't think he's ever had reason to. The man intimidates refs more than any coach since John Thompson retired.

Way back in the day, when K was just starting out at Duke, he complained all the time about the special treatment that UNC and Smith got. He learned well.

Agree with your sentiments but just wanted to pass along that John Wooden says hello. 10 out of 12 NCs has him standing alone at the top of the mountain.

But it was almost what Geno does now with the ladies. He had the best of the best and had them for 3/4 years to develop his teams. Plus there was absolutely blatant cheating going on to get those guys there. No one wants to hear it or bring it up but yikes talk about "coach responsibility" "lack of institutional control" There will likely never be another college program that so blatantly paid for its players to gain monumental success for such a long period of time and yet never go punished. I'm sure Wooden was a fine coach but his school cheated profusely to get a humongous advantage on the rest of the field.

The common denominator in a lot of these shadily called games has been John Higgins. He was the ref in the Ohio St game referenced above. I can't believe that clown reffed the tourney. He is awful and seems to make a point to influence many of the games he refs.

He didn't do the final. Did he have UK/Wisc.?

Wooden retired 40 years ago so I'm not sure where the facts shake out on that stuff. I think cheating has been widespread and rampant throughout hoops and football for several decades. And with Wooden it's hard to know what to believe and what not to believe. You listen to Bill Walton and he says when he showed up at practice with long hair and a beard Wooden told him to get rid of it or nice knowin' ya. Most coaches would not have been that firm with the best player in the country.

The SWC used to stand for So We Cheat? Who'd have thunk an institution like UNC would be involved in the chicanery it has become embroiled in? But if you just go by the record Wooden was the best of all time.

There was some similarity between the 2, with Sully and Oak picking up 2 quick fouls and then the refs doing a 180 and calling everything on SU/Wisky. However, the Ohio State game was much more egregious. IIRC, Ohio State shot like 43 ft's. Insane

Edit: I looked it up. OSU shot 42 ft's. We were called for 28 fouls. James Southerland, who was not exactly known for his physicality, fouled out in 11 minutes of action. 11 minutes! Dion fouled out in 20 minutes. Xmas had 4 fouls in 16 minutes.

By comparison. Wisky had nobody foul out and was only called for 15 fouls and Duke only shot 20 ft's.

Was shocked to see that we got 9 pts, 12 boards and 6 blocks combined from BMK and Xmas against OSU. Pretty solid. I've been blaming this loss on Fab for 3 years, and maybe we would have won with him, but the combined center numbers were solid.
But SU plays that damn zone defense and everybody knows you do that to get physical with the opposing team.

Wooden was obviously a great coach, but he did it in a time where the field wasn't as dispersed w/ fewer teams and tournament rounds. Plus as others have mentioned, he "bought" a lot of his talent & the overall scouting wasn't as widespread so a lot of talent was undiscovered. Nowadays, talent is all over the country making the overall competition much better.
Coach K has had success in every spectrum especially internationally. Under the circumstances I just consider him to be the GOAT. JMHO

I hear ya on this era being different but one thing with Wooden he didn't have any Lehigh or Mercer losses on his NCAA resume. I'm just going by the results as I don't know much about the UCLA extra-curriculars. You can go on the web and easily find accusations against Coach K.

Wooden's run essentially spanned my time in grade school and high school. Kinda makes an impression on you when the guy wins 10 out of 12. People tend to focus on Alcindor and Walton but he won 4 NCs without those guys. His teams were just phenomenally well coached. Lots of times he won with guys that did nothing in the professional ranks. As for the international, back then the US Olympic Committee used Hank Iba as their HC. Wooden never coached the Olympic team but I imagine he could have gotten the job done.
