This is really awesome. McPherson and MacPherson... We have so few legends left now. This was a great post and remembrance. And I forgot about this as I was just a kid then I think I was about 11-12.
MacPherson and McPherson
Had to be around my time tooI still remember coach Mac coming to my little high school my seventh grade year with Duane Kinnon and Rob Thomas in tow. I was so excited when he played coy to my question about who the next #44 was going to be after Michael Owens (Terry Richardson). We’re talking the Sugar bowl/BB final four era. I don’t know how any child from central NY could come say not being a fan of Cuse sports. That man cemented my love of a university I never went to (accepted, was my dream school, but I had to get away…)
Marrone’s first year, I seemingly remember he was attempting similar outreach based upon Coach Mac’s model. I never heard much about shafer or Dino doing much in the area (Oneida county for myself).Had to be around my time too
They did do something during the Shafer era, I can’t exactly remember what it was, it was "Coach Mac Day" or something like that. It was against Wake Forest, so I am thinking it was 2013 or 2015. Coach Mac came out in a golf cart and Shafer ran over and shook his hand. It was a nice moment.I know. It would have been better if he was still alive too even if right at the beginning of the 'Baber's era... But, who knows when that takes us or happens. He was long overdue imo. I'm glad we got some other legends up on the wall like Little before he passed.
