Coach Search Options after Autry

Episode 8 Fight GIF by Friends

You do know that just 2 years ago Siena won a total of 4 wins. 4 wins. And in just 2 years, he has them winning a league title.
how much NIL did they have two years ago versus this season? where did they rank in the league and where will Syracuse rank next season?

One of my big concerns with hiring GMac is what happens with AW. Based on support for Lyke, I don’t think Lally is above putting personal relationships and grievances above what’s actually best for Syracuse. Hiring GMac may guarantee that the dysfunctional crap show that Syracuse has been for the last decade just continues, with new faces filled in at a few key positions.
Football and Basketball separate

If ADBB doesn't hire GMac it'll be because he has to assert he's independent from our past. Chancellor-Elect Haynie has to step in and make the decision that it's going to be GMac. And it would be wonderful if Adrian Autry calls GMac and encourages him to take the job.

Not talking about Hodgson, he's not coaching here. GMAC is. What's our floor?
First, I don't know that Gerry will get the job. Just a week or so ago, he wasn't interested. Which says something about where we are right now as a program. And it's not just he didn't want to replace Red. Which he didn't. Sadly, he thinks he can do better in another year or so. As I said, that isn't a guess. Maybe the last few days changed things. It is easier to say I'm not interested when you think someone else will get he job as opposed to someone actually offering it to you. As for next year, no matter who the coach is, how can anyone know what the floor or the ceiling is without knowing who is on the team? Who did we keep? UGH Who did we get in the portal? How do they mesh? I don't know and wouldn't even hazard a guess no matter who the next coach is until we know those things. One thing about Gerry, I think he will have more NIL available to him than any other coach we could get. Even Hop. But That may not be true either.

If we’re going to say Siena was without 3 starters. Duke was without 2. Lot easier for a 16 seed to get up to play a 1 seed then the other way around.

I said I was impressed with Siena and their fight. I just was also not surprised by the lack of offensive sets to get open shots in the second half.
dook has one of the best defensives in the whole country. I think Michigan (with all their 5 start talent) scored 60 on them. Maybe their coach cant design sets either

They lost by 4 points.

I'm unsure where this narrative that they were "totally unprepared" is coming from.
They were down 23 in the second half. 23 with under 13 to go.

Good on them for coming back, but don't make it sound as if it was neck and neck the entire game.

They weren’t in the game for 35 minutes- they did fight back hard but it was deer in the headlights for a while. BH didn’t manage the game well for a long stretch but when he turned the screws defensively later on they made a nice rally. End of game rallies are fun but in a matchup where they should have run even they were outplayed and he was out coached by a team down its best player.

Unprepared is maybe an unfair word. In a direct comparison his team was not as prepared as GMac had his team.

Why are you so hostile?

Comeback to what?

I'm just confused why we need to pretend like BH is a bad coach now. His team had a bad first half and then played a good second half. Gerry's team played a good first half and a bad second half.
Actually they had a great first half ….. and then played exactly how a 16 seed should play against a 1 seed in the second .

If Gerry is the next coach I am interested to see if he can get that same effort out of Kiyan and Donnie if they are both still here. The two of those guys didn’t play half as hard as anyone on Siena did today all year.
Well, if they dont want to play hard and with effort, they can get the hell out of Syracuse.
GMAC showed in that game what he expects from his players and what they can achieve if they do what he expects.
They played against Duke their half assed way and were destroyed.
They saw Siena almost win and only lose by 6.
Crap, I would do whatever GMAC wanted as a player to show that I have what it takes.
And dont underestimate the street cred he has as a player who won a national championship and played a major part in that win.
GMAC can walk the walk as a player, and that little sample size we just saw shows he can walk the walk as a coach.

The league tournament is the winner of the league. That is what they get the auto bid.
Yeah, that gets the bid. But the league winner is the team that finishes first, unless the plain meaning of Enlish has changed.

Siena's offense in the first half was a clinic. Great game plan and execution. Duke changed the game in the 2nd half by going zone that took Siena out of their offense and really mucked up the lane eliminating the great cutting of the first half. Kudos to Scheyer for changing and not just continuing the same thing that wasn't working. Great job by Gmac both for strategy and having his guys play smart. They never disintegrated into taking bad shots. I expected his guys to get tired the last 6 minutes and they did but that's expected when you're not deep enough in talent to sub a few guys without a huge drop-off.

Guys—it was their Super Bowl.
As it is for every low-major that makes it to the tourney. With that being said, in their "Super Bowls," teams with Siena's level of depth, going against the number one overall seed, usually lose by 35 or more. This doesn't mean that Gerry is automatically the right hire. What it does mean is that he was able to coach an undermanned team to a very close loss, essentially on the road, against the number overall seed. Call it what it is. It was impressive.

I do not have a position on if GMAC should be the next coach. It doesnt matter to me as long as basketball gets back on track. I have seen a bunch of posters over the last few weeks and months say he needed more seasoning and on the jop training before they would support him. From what I saw today and in their conference tourney I think he has the coaching chops BUT that doesnt mean he will be successful. There is a ton more to running a program the size of SU's that can make or break a program. He may or may not be successful.. but I feel real comfortable saying that coaching wouldn't be an issue.. NIL/recruiting and other things.. not sure about but coaching looks good to me
