Why would it be expected that a current assistant could be announced as our HC while his team is still active in the tournament? Wouldn’t that guy want to delay until afterward so as not to be a distraction? What’s the precedent/history on that kind of thing? And is it different between hoops and football?

This is why it;s so hard for me to read the posts from devendorf and all these former players on hiring gmac right now right away and pretend the family has the best ideas. Many of them lined up behind Hop, now they are lining up behind gmac, ok I get it. We need them cuz they got the big bags immediately and that matters but damn how can we keep doing this.

We all know every cuse player that ever passed through this school was watchin the UNC game today. You're telling me that if we wave the Martelli name in front of the same guys above that they will say no way the guy can't coach here? Remember what team we played this year when Melo sent out the "SMH" yup UNC.

There's huge value in the JB coaching tree living on. I would love for Gerry to carry the mantle, and would support him. And want him to succeed. He should have gotten the job when Red got it.

That said, I've been thinking a lot about why everyone fell behind Hodgson. At first I was mystified bc his record didn't impress me. But, I was taken aback by the strong support he's had in this thread, from good posters too. So, I have realized that he represented change, & what they really want is change.

So, we have Blair now. An outsider. He can do anything. It would be great if he conducted a true national search . If GMac is still the one after all that, awesome. However if there is someone way better. I mean way better, and I was never convinced Hodgson was. Let's go for it.

I guess my question here is why when it gets out that BH turned us down it’s just posturing and getting out in front of the story from his agent but when insiders here say he was never offered the job that’s definitely the truth? Wouldn’t SU not want it to look like they were turned down? Also, if SU couldn’t match the financial offer BH wanted, then I guess you could probably spin it where both he turned them down and he was never offered the job.

But again, I obviously don’t know anything. But I’m going to be skeptical when the leaks that make the school look bad are just posturing and the ones that make them look better are obviously true

Our new AD as his first act of business would be refuting what Goodman of all people said in that story by saying that we have a better list of candidates but we can't tell you who right now. For what it;s worth I would normally agree with you but the timing Tuesday night is just so random, it makes no sense except to spin for BH. And if BH was happy with the situation there would be no need to say anything at all.

Did Bryant lose any recruits or players when he took over? The ‘no offseason’ implies an uphill battle but he was promoted from associate HC.

Grasso resigned November 13th. That would be right around the start of the season.

That's still a massively uphill battle for Martelli stepping in as the head coach then, regardless if he was associate HC or not.

Every ticket includes a $3-5 or whatever NIL surcharge going directly to a collective. 18-20 home games, get back to averaging 20k a game and boom, there’s another couple mill for NIL purposes. Who cares what the NCAA says, they’re feckless.

That's not NIL. That would contribute to the revenue share fund the school already has. We need NIL over and above the revenue share money to be more competitive. That cannot be capped and is why big donor schools have such an advantage.

That’s all fine. I’m not saying we offered or we didn’t, or he turned us down or he didn’t. It seemed like there was an idea I picked up along the way that the story that BH turned us down was bogus and we definitely hadn’t offered the job. If we’re all landing on we don’t know, then I can sign off on that. (Agree with the timing on Tuesday)

I like Martelli Jr too. I am curious though about what he can attract and demand NIL wise as well as similar questions to others in terms of the P4 jump not to mention he’s never been involved with a P4 program at any level as a player or coach. By no means throwing cold water on the idea just that pretty much everyone whose been top of the list has questions unless there are proven P4 head coaches still a possibility.

My kid went to UCONN, sat in the student section cheering his butt off for SU. He was so loud Flynn came up to him after the game, thanked him and gave him his head band. My kid did his work study job for UCONN athletics.

It doesn’t seem massive, to me, but that does depend on his involvement with the coaching as associate HC before taking over.

He didn't as of last week. For a few reasons and they weren't bad reasons. Having said that, at that time, I don't believe that Gerry thought he would be offered the job. A lot easier to say no to something you haven't been offered. Same thing happened to me with Brook Burke. He might think differently now. By the way, there is no guarantee that he will be offered it now.
