Coach Search Options after Autry

He values cincy over Syracuse.
That’s a rumor through a guy. It’s easy enough for his agent to plant some hear say through the mill to generate some thinking that someone will need to pay big for him. If some whispers work to get another million a year I’d do it too.

The whispers about Cincy could be true it could also be we have already made contact and these are rumors planted by the agent to drive up the price. I find it hard to believe someone born in NY would have no interest in the Syracuse job

Assuming the compo offer is competitive, it really comes down to the NIL now ... Everything else is tertiary at best.

Shertz is going to be in very high demand regardless of any internet rumors or agent generated interest. The industry is well aware of his standing. This will only intensify as his team continues to perform. His best play is to allow the coaching cycle to play out to see how many high profile jobs open up.

I'm not opposed to the idea of considering Eric Devendorf.
I mean he has coaching experience.
Why do I think his feisty persona and knowledge of the game of bb would be good for our team?
I like his broadcasting and he thinks and says things about cuse that I think about.
Am I insane?
I am 100,000% opposed to Devo. He’s the exact opposite of what they need.

Call pitino and have him say no. I’d take him for 3 years to come full circle.

Establish the culture of winning again and working hard.

I’d call thad after he says no. We need stability asap.

Have Pitino say "no?" I mean, how many times does he have to diss, make fun of the city, etc. over the years for you to become aware that he's, being polite, not a fan of the city. That should be a loud enough "no" for you. Not to mention, he loves NYC and has a billionaire donor at St. John's with an open checkbook.

I have a new leader in clubhouse, name has been somewhat mentioned before is John Groce at Akron. Dude was fired at Illinois, but he wins at Akron. It’s a new era and Syracuse has the GM to help with the talent acquisition part which I think was his shortcoming at Illinois. Worth a second chance? This hire needs to be about stability and raising the floor of the program. A product the fan base will trust and reenergize the dome. You’re telling me when UConn hired Hurley they expected what they have seen from results. Maybe a guy like Groce won’t catch lightning in a bottle and perform at that level, but with the increased resources and infrastructure, he is a guy that I think will deliver reasonable results and rebuild the floor of the program atleast. Anything bigger than that is gravy.
Interestingly, his brother is Travis Steele, who has also been mentioned here as a possible candidate

Or maybe Schertz isn't looking forward to having the fanbase rip him a new one on social media after every game.
lol, A) Wes Miller has been better than Autry and check out the Cincy boards (also they’re quoting this thread) and B) if he’s afraid of criticism when losing he better not have aspirations for a real high profile gig.

Skyline Chili?

do coach's and players REALLY have time to read this board? If they do that may be part of the issue with them performing like trash.

Ya, this isn’t Syracuse football. This is Syracuse Basketball. Hiring Fran Brown is completely different scenario than basketball. We need to go out and spend and get an established coach.

Football we are trying to find someone that has to overcome disadvantages. Syracuse Basketball is a step down from a blue blood. It doesn’t and shouldn’t have these disadvantages.

Why?

Seriously, have you watched any Seton Hall games this year?

Holloway’s teams play hard and smart with sparse talent. Holloway wins at Seton Hall with limited N$L funds.

Because Holloway can compete and win at Seton Hall he would do very good at SU which has solid N$L funding and as a top 15 men’s basketball program is a place where recruits want to play at.
Been a SHU season ticket holder, Sha is very interesting. His teams play hard and there’s a proven identity. However he took over a team that was consistently in the tournament with Willard and has yet to make it, with a team that is trending the wrong (losing 3 straight including home to Butler and at DePaul).

He’s a better coach than Red but idk if I’d call him a home run. All that aside think there’s next to no chance he would come here.

Who knows how much was media posturing but he was heavily linked to the Louisville opening and was very adamant he’s not going anywhere.

Maybe money and resources sway him but if Louisville couldn’t do it don’t see why he’d come here.

I’ve seen some of these names thrown around but this is what I would do;

1A) Schertz- proven winner everywhere he has gone. Originally from NY. He’s 50 so we could have him for awhile if he kills it and stays. 50 is still on the younger side of coaching. However this is already his 18th season as a head coach and he’s won big every year, wherever he goes. Like his records are phenomenal other than his first year at Indiana state (big rebuild there). He would bring legit experience as a head coach. 18 years as a head coach compared to what we just had from Autry. He’s a good communicator, like I said from NY, so he has ties to the northeast. Sure he has a pretty good understanding of Syracuse basketball and what it is. Great developer of talent, great X’s and O’s. He’d be my first call for sure

2) Skinn- young coach. Up and coming. Has cast experience at some big time schools as an assistant where he is super well respected. Only 42 I believe. Smart, great communicator, would probably be a great recruiter. Former player at George Mason, so he’ll be able to relate to the players and earn their respect, would bring a much needed energy boost to the program. His teams are WELL COACHED. He’s had good records every year at George Mason, every year the record has improved still. His 3rd year as a head coach but it looks like he’s has the chops to be the guy. Something you can tell from Autry after year 3, hell even after year 1 you could tell he didn’t have the chops. Skinn has a presence and commands the room.

3) Travis Steele- he was so-so at Xavier. He has ties recruiting wise. He’d be a realistic hire. He’s KILLING it at Miami (OH) now. They are doing a hell of a job. Sometimes it just doesn’t work at certain schools and you are just a better fit at other schools. He’s a good ball coach and has a lot of experience as an assistant and head coach. He was never bad at Xavier. Had some good seasons, but even his bad seasons were nothing like Autrys. Steele wouldn’t be my first call as the other two would. But Steele is still a good option

Yeah I don’t like when people compare football and basketball. Two entirely different situations. My fandom for both is at similar levels, honestly have been to more football then basketball games within the last few years. I always have higher standards for results in Basketball than Football. Indiana who won the natty in Football will say the same thing. Florida who won the natty in Basketball will say the same thing the other way.

I don't think the list will get down to him but Chris Holtmann isn't bad. Solid at Butler, so-so at Ohio State and engineering a solid turnaround at DePaul.

Throwing my hat in the ring.

1. Bob Huggins. Winning records at multiple schools!
2. Mike Brey. Force Retired but tons of experience and still wants to coach!
3. Patrick Ewing. NY ties!

I’m sorry but that’s what half you clowns sound like.
Huggy Bear?!?😂
