Schertz is a no brainer. Make it happen
I love the idea of doing absolutely whatever it takes to get Schertz. But is it me or does it just feel like it would be too good to be true to land him?Schertz is a no brainer. Make it happen
Of all the candidates that have been mentioned, Schertz is my #1 choice, Skinn #2, Hodgson #3 although I'd be happy with any of them.
Travis Steele is the one name so far that would do nothing to excite me, despite the great season Miami is having so far.
we should rule out nice guys from even being considered. Let’s swing the pendulum completely in the opposite direction. No one said we have to hire a nice guy though….
I think it may be as simple as Hodgson brings X millions to the table with him and the other candidates do not.Hodgson attaching himself to Lally isn't by chance. Sure, there's a philanthropic component because he's from upstate, but let's not kid ourselves here. He's playing the game. Frankly, that's needed these days.
Doing whatever it takes to get this job shouldn't be lost on us if we can't land Schertz or Skinn. He wants Cuse, and wants it bad.
Also an FYI, The Lally's are keeping an eye on St Louis basketball and Josh Schertz content. BTW, does anyone know their level of involvement in men's basketball? It seems like they are much more involved in football and women's basketball and publicly appear closer with Fran and FLJ than Red. Perhaps they see this as the opportunity to get more involved in men's basketball if there is a new regime. Agree on Hodgson, the USF move itself seemed very calculated because I was concerned we would miss the window with him last season if he took another P4. It felt like he was giving Syracuse one last chance, I fully expect him to end up at Pitt if we go another direction. Schertz is also very impressive, but Hodgson wants this bad. Hodgson is going to be a big time coach at Syracuse or elsewhere. The hesitancy is he hasn't had 'THE' signature season yet that Schertz has had and is having now. This season could still be it for Hodgson. But even if it isn't, I still think Hodgson with Syracuse resources will bring energy back, stabilize, and raise the floor of the program atleast.Hodgson attaching himself to Lally isn't by chance. A very interesting dilemma that plausibly could arise is, assuming Schertz is a no, Skinn becomes the primary candidate, but the Lallys go to bat for Hodgson with a sizable financial commitment.I think it may be as simple as Hodgson brings X millions to the table with him and the other candidates do not.
So you're saying you're happy you have no Skinn in the game?A very interesting dilemma that plausibly could arise is, assuming Schertz is a no, Skinn becomes the primary candidate, but the Lallys go to bat for Hodgson with a sizable financial commitment.
Does Wildhack turn down his biggest donor if Hodgson is his second choice? Could have all sorts of ripple effects on their involvement with the department. Not envious of the position JW could find himself in.
Hodgson nickname is the shark. Fundraising and recruiting will be the least of the problems. Coaching will see how this season ends up, but he seems to be trending up in that department each season.Do we believe Hodgson could get more out of Lally than other candidates could?
I'm aware they know each other, but I don't know where from -- are they close or is it they just happened to meet before?
Wondering if he's pushing SU toward Hodgson.
That’s what happens when you let the program slide into obscurity for a decade. We've gone down this rabbit hole before, but now that it's becoming more concrete, he's the most sought-after coach on the market right now, and has all the leverage in who he chooses. That includes waiting another year for a larger program, which I could see.
The program may be getting a hard dose of reality with the candidates who are actually interested in SU.
This is great
Absolute horsecrap. Don’t believe everything you hear on the internet. He values cincy over Syracuse.

Lallys are from WNY and so is BH (born and raised) Lallys live in S Florida and support USF athletics. As I’ve mentioned before Lallys are accessible just ask them. BH follows them on XDo we believe Hodgson could get more out of Lally than other candidates could?

Zero inside knowledge, though I think he would retain and actively try to retain a lot more of this roster than many people would think. The players at Syracuse are good they just need good coaching. I’m more sure of it now than even last season when Syracuse didn’t have as much talent of how much this team is held back by the littlest things. One other thing about Hodgson as well if and a big if Syracuse wants to keep Donnie and Donnie wants to stay at Syracuse, they have a pre-existing relationship as Hodgson was his lead recruiter for Alabama Donnie's second choice out of high school.
For sure, the last part matters to me and should matter to everyone in a close call. He does remind me of Fran and he has head coaching experience, building up two programs now. To me the next guy question is becoming more obvious by the day. South Florida closing out this season strong will only further get everyone on board and excited. Like they haven’t even announced a leadership change and who the next leader is yet, but I’m already getting energized and excited about it lol.I think that I have moved Hodgson to first on my preferred list with Schertz and Skinn following.
I think Hogdson plays a fun style that would be what we have been missing in the Done for a long time! I think he will recruit very well and given resources to succeed.
This also reminds me a little of Fran, Hodgson I believe wants this job! His favorite team growing up, you can’t tell me he didn’t picture himself I. jB’s shoes growing up. With his energy and passion for Cuse hoops, also being an outsider, I think it could work out very well!
