Coach Search Options after Autry

I saw a recent interview with Hodgson where he talked about playing and scoring fast. But he also mentioned that he has "over 300" half court sets and most of those are to take advantage of mismatches by isolating defenders. He designs sets based on advance scouting and analytics of the next team on the schedule. He said there are basic sets that can adapted to multiple combinations just by changing a couple of words in the play call. He also uses analytics to set up his players to get the shots they are most efficient at.

ISO offense is not a bad thing when it is run at this level of sophistication.
What a change this would be. We are ridiculously easy to scout. It took 3 games with Donnie back for ACC staffs to adjust. And “effort” hasn’t proven to be much of a defensive strategy.

Oklahoma will likely be in the market again. Porter Moser fizzled out there. Before anyone tells me they aren’t a threat, let me remind you they’re an SEC school with air Jordan branding thanks to Blake Griffin

Oklahoma will probably wait another year before canning Moser, imo.

This is incorrect. He was born in Ames and his parents worked at Iowa state. Nicknamed the mayor because he received several votes in the Ames election for mayor lol.
Correct. His grandfather worked at Nebraska as AD, I believe, decades ago. Hoiberg is an Iowa State grad and grew up in Ames Iowa, though he was born in Lincoln, Nebraska. Also, to the previous poster, I wouldn’t say Hoiberg has Nebraska “rolling.” He’s been there 7 years now, and only had one winning record and one tourney bid so far in the previous six seasons. I still wouldn’t say that’s rolling as a program yet. Yes, he’s 21-0 now. But we were 21-0 in 2014 and the next year we didn’t even make the tourney, made the Final Four the year after, and then the downturn began. You just never know in college basketball. But he was very successful at Iowa State.

i wasn't much aware of Schertz until i started reading this thread. was his name out there as much as it is now nationally prior to all the talk about him here?

I don't think so, this cycle just because we started talking about so early on this board, way before the national media started talking about coaching changes. It is getting towards the end of the year now so the national media is now bringing attention to coaching changes and stuff.

I think getting Saint Louis into the Top 25 and A-10 Favorite has strapped the rocket ship on him.

Before he was known for getting the most out of Robbie Avila at Indiana State.

Myself and a few others have been banging the drum for Schertz since November. He got attention nationally two years ago when he turned around the moribund Indiana State program and had them 17-1 in their conference in year 3. They hadn’t really been good since Larry Bird’s days. That’s when I first heard about him and he got national media attention. He took the St Louis job after his success at ISU. (Louisville wanted to steal him away, but he already had signed with SLU, and the Ville would’ve had to pay a big penalty to get him, so they went with Pat Kelsey instead.) Last season at SLU was a transition year. They were decent in the A10 (19-14), but didn’t make the tourney. I knew he probably needed a year or two to get going, which is fair for even really good coaches. I figured year 2 at SLU he would turn them around big time—and that’s exactly what’s happening. Last spring, I liked him and Hodgson as potential Red replacements but when I did research on Schertz and his offensive philosophy last summer, I became convinced that he could be Ben McCollum 2.0—a guy that was a big winner at the D2 level, then quickly made a successful transition to the mid major level, then took another step up to P4.

Bottom line. I think besides the big names that have been discussed that are not very likely.

I believe we need to come out of this with either Schertz or Hodgson.

I’m not sold on skin. He took over a program that was already doing well. I want one of the other two that have built something everywhere the have went.

I think it depends on the context. Theres been a decent amount of people discussing him and been big on him for a few years now because of his track record at every level and bringing his guys up from the level below and being able to compete+. But As a Syracuse candidate I feel like it’s become a thing since November/december
