Coach Search Options after Autry

Yep- Golden can coach and putting Oats to shame right now. That's what you get for running iso ball offense for the most part, live and die by the three, and have no bigs who can post-up inside. Plus their D is meh.

Yup when you run 5 out pick and roll and look for mismatches, but the Florida bigs can stay with the Bama guards, so there isn't much penetration to create wide open 3s or dunks, which is usually what happens. And when you run the 3s or dunk offense, and the 3s dont fall, it is going to be a long day sometimes happens on the road.

Florida's bigs are so good.

I have tickets to the NCAAT 1st two rounds in Tampa. I imagine that FLA will be the highest ranked team there.

We might need to start a coaching search before everyone else does if we want to grab someone without getting poached. I don’t know how much SU wants to spend on a BB coach/program but we’re likely going to need to spend some $ or hope for a cheap pipe dream.

Murray is interesting for sure, I just feel another assistant will be a tough sell.
His reputation and abilities surpass many of the suggested HC’s. I think he silently checks a lot of our desired boxes and somehow has flown under the radar a bit. I hope they’re giving him a hard look.

Id argue we get too fixated on prior HC experience. What I’d like to see is a proven coach, in general, with the ability to run an offense.

This may stir the pot but Autry’s tenure as an Assistant at Syracuse was lukewarm at best and the last 10-15 years of JB’s era yielded average bench coaches post-Fine and Hop. Autry deserved a shot at a Siena, not Cuse. The error was forcing an in house hire, not hiring an assistant.

I like Murray and think he has high upside but he’s too much of a risk with zero head coaching experience. We can’t risk another Red debacle. The career assistant route worked out for Tommy Lloyd recently going from assistant at Gonzaga to Arizona head coach, but he had 20+ years of experience and really helped Few build Gonzaga into a power. Arizona also has great resources. He’s been the one exception in recent years. Schertz is an offensive wizard himself with a proven system, so he neutralizes the one advantage that Murray has.

Murray might be really good, but with no HC experience, it’s hard to know how he’d be as a HC. With Schertz success as a HC on several levels, he is much more of a sure thing.

I'm pretty familiar with Wardle. He's a Midwest guy. No connections elsewhere. Good guy, not sure he has a high ceiling.
I used to work with his wife. Not at the same company, she was in ad sales and I was a client. She was really sweet, but he is a pretty decent coach but doesn’t make sense here
