Coach Search Options after Autry

I like offense as much as the next guy. I don’t like the idea of a play style that is so seemingly dependent on hitting shots that you could take out a top 10 team one night but lose to a bottom 10 team the next. Doesn’t seem sustainable.

I will push back a little here, not on Hodgson, the coach, but the system. He runs basically the same system as Oats, and Oats has proven that this system is sustainable in the SEC. He has a winning percentage of .694 overall and .681 in the SEC so no big drop off. Also made the tournament the last 5 years. Not saying Hodgson will have that success, but if you get the talent in that system, it is sustainable.

Oats has been doing that at Alabama with, presumably, players we won’t afford here. Or will we be able to rely on this donor friend of Hodgson’s to put us up near that level of NIL?

I’ve gone and watched some videos of Hodgson and don’t find his demeanor as dislikable as I did originally. So I’ll give him that. I do need to go brush up on what all transpired with Red’s son because it’s hard to ever say a scumbag thing like that and not be a scumbag person. I’m hoping there’s some context I’m missing.

Isn't that just rumors that a few posters put here, or was there something bigger I missed? Seems almost tailored to generate outrage.

All I could find was a Tweet by some dude named CurryHicksSage. If it’s a made up rumor, it’s a weird one to make up.

People say stupid crap all the time. Doesn't make it right or wrong, but doesn't mean you are a terrible person; it means you said a stupid thing. Plus, we only hear context from one side, nothing from the other side. Hodgson has never had any incident before, as it seems isolated, it's hard to make a sweeping judgment on someone based off 3rd party information about half of a conversation in the handshake line. That is my personal opinion; you are free to hate him until the end of the earth, I don't care. There has been plenty of debate about it, and I am not getting into that.

Why doesn't Lally currently contribute to basketball NIL? He just doesn't like it / want to, or is it because he thinks Red will waste it?

Anyone listened to AA radio show this week? It was reported a fan called in to ask Red who should replace him next year but caller was cut off. Just wondering if Red said anything or just moved on.

As a person who has said stupid things, I get that. I think saying it to a player and son about his father is why I find it morally objectionable. Very tough to put it in the ‘heat of the moment’ category.

If Hodgson said something to the player it's obviously unprofessional and he should've bit the lip. But there's two sides to every story and you wouldn't believe some of the crap that comes out of players mouths towards coaches. It's incredibly hard not to respond back and I can see young competitive fire-y coaches not being able to bite the lip. Not excusing it but I can certainly understand it.

Agree that’s bad. No way that should even be a topic between a head coach and an opponent’s player after a game. It’s not a casual mistake, it’s purposefully contentious, mean spirited comment. If he is serious about being considered for the SU job, that’s not a good start nor attitude. There will probably be people in the athletic dept, who would still be working for SU even after a change, who probably like Red, respect him, more including former teammates, perhaps boosters etc who could resent it and thus him for it. It wouldn’t be a good way to start a job nor giving a glimpse of how he’d handle people interactions. Disappointing.

Who is this guy and why would Skinn leave George Mason for Utah State?
Don’t know who this Ryan Hammer guy is, but Utah State is a significant step up from George Mason in league, resources and recent track record. Their recent successful coaches have been Ryan Odom and Danny Sprinkle (who replaced Hop at Washington).

I’m with you. He may have just overstayed his time at dayton. They expect a lot. He always seems to find great transfers and always coaches well against power conference teams. I could see power conf teams going after him.
I think he’s a good coach and Dayton’s been lucky to have him. He has a 67.1% winning % over his 9 years at Dayton and 6 years winning over 21wins. He has a 65.5% overall winning % at VCU, Alabama and Dayton. At Dayton he’s had only 2 years with no post season but it’s mainly NIT invites with just 1 NCAA round of 32 appearance. Dayton thinks they should be better. They are a tough crowd to satisfy.

You know who I wouldnt take - Chris Beard.

Watching Tennessee and Ole Miss and even ignoring the whole strangling his fiancee thing...dude is completely psychotic.

I thought the police might need to take him off the court during his ejection 4 minutes ago. Lol

I wouldn't want scummy Nate Oates either.

Rick Barnes is cool. Lol

It wasn't a rumor. It was verified by 2 very reputable and trusted posters here. Bayside and Dasher. Bayside via a GW staffer and Dasher via an SU source.

I’m skeptical we will be willing to pay for a top tier coach since that will be significantly more than Red made. I’m skeptical that we can attract top recruits without money that doesn’t exist and a top tier coach we aren’t going to hire. I’m confident that without the top tier coach and recruits, Syracuse will not be a consistent winner.

In the new landscape where the SEC decided to compete in basketball - I’m not sure what the viable route to prominence for Syracuse basketball is. It might be to hire an affordable guy with lower level head coaching experience, hope he does well enough to make the job look more attractive - and hire a long term replacement when that guy bolts to a higher paying job. So I will be shocked if a huge number of people on here aren’t shocked and disappointed at whomever we hire.
Don't forget to take your vitamin D

I want Schertz, but I could make an argument that Hodgson isn't that much more qualified than G-Mac. Gerry is definitely much more qualified now that Red was when he got the job, but I know that's not saying much.
Would JW even consider.G?

If you have $30M laying around you’re willing to donate to the athletic department directed to that initiative, I’m sure they would be willing to take your call.

We sell our team name to a corporate sponsor for money or NIL.
Who needs the "Orange" anyway

The above is said in jest... but I do think sadly, at some point a school is going to sell their team name to a corporate sponsor
