Coach Search Options after Autry

This former Daily Orange reporter is shading the athletic department leadership and the structural issues facing the AD and the basketball program. Is he just a young nerd with an axe to grind and bad sources, or does he have a point? I mean, no one knows what’s gonna happen with the NCAA and college sports. We’ll probably get some government/Congressional intervention at some point.

As for not being able to recruit top talent to Syracuse, how did we end up with a top 5-6 ACC roster this season?

Again things can change on a dime like they do with recruiting but if the school mentioned is accurate then it's hard to see SU getting into a bidding war.
Is the likely party landing him insider info?

Understandable figured that is where we would be financially. I think we will pay, but we are not going to be going back and forth and paying over market, that wouldn't be our style.

That is definitely surprising considering the Lally connection. Without naming names, can you give a ballpark of how many targets there are?

Your guess is as good as mine on that, from what I heard before expect a national search that won't rule out alumni (GMac amongst others) but is likely to go outside the SU family tree. I trust John Wildhack and I believe he's already done and is doing his due diligence on candidates. I also suspect that there maybe more interest then SU realizes once Red is officially gone. At this point there are a lot of rumblings and rumors most of which I won't repeat because the info has been asked to keep quiet, I have a hard time believing it or others have shared something similar and there's no need to repeat it.

Must be Oregon or maybe Ohio State? Because UNC isn’t firing Hubert this year. And the rest of the potential competition seems meh. I’ve been skeptical either Oregon or Ohio State would fire their coaches, but they’re both resource-rich schools. I’m hoping Wildhack can get in there with Schertz and find the dough and make his pitch about the Syracuse upside.

Not sure it's a structural issue as has been pointed out what was done was to finally start the non JB era. The problem was the school (or certain parts of it) wanted Red to get 3rd year right or wrong and it's gone as we all feared it would. One good hire in a few months will totally flip the narrative.

This. I agree with this approach as well. Especially if the bidding war gets out of hand. This is Syracuse Basketball. If you can’t see that if you are actually are the guy to build the program back up, your extension from all the additional revenue you will be bringing in with your success is going to be better than most schools can ever dream of.

SU better bball school but could come down to $$$. Similar to an Oats type of situation ie.

Also thinking Oregon or Ohio St if Altman hangs it up and if OSU pulls Diebler maybe a year before most think. Other two could be Oklahoma or LSU if they want to invest in hoops...

Yes…. Maybe I’m naive. SEC schools are going to be shifting more focus to football because of the Big Ten gaining top football conference status. Memphis, c’mon Paulie. Kansas State could be interesting, though it would be unusual for a candidate to be deciding between us two, just seems like very different options. You are looking for a different kind of guy to lead a program like Syracuse. Someone who can handle the pressure, embrace the history and tradition here. If you are in the ball park financially. You can sell that the sky is the limit because it kind of is with the revenue stream a packed Dome can do for you. I mean even last Saturday in a season where everyone is just so fed up, 20,000 people showed up to honor Lawrence Moten. That’s not normal in a good way.

Thanks again for the info, very appreciated. Agree with the narrative comment as well. Also these things can be fluid and change quickly. Honestly excited to see how this all shakes out.
