Coach Search Options after Autry

Yes…. Maybe I’m naive. SEC schools are going to be shifting more focus to football because of the Big Ten gaining top football conference status. Memphis, c’mon Paulie. Kansas State could be interesting, though it would be unusual for a candidate to be deciding between us two, just seems like very different options. You are looking for a different kind of guy to lead a program like Syracuse. Someone who can handle the pressure, embrace the history and tradition here. If you are in the ball park financially. You can sell that the sky is the limit because it kind of is with the revenue stream a packed Dome can do for you. I mean even last Saturday in a season where everyone is just so fed up, 20,000 people showed up to honor Lawrence Moten. That’s not normal in a good way.

Not sure it's a structural issue as has been pointed out what was done was to finally start the non JB era. The problem was the school (or certain parts of it) wanted Red to get 3rd year right or wrong and it's gone as we all feared it would. One good hire in a few months will totally flip the narrative.
Thanks again for the info, very appreciated. Agree with the narrative comment as well. Also these things can be fluid and change quickly. Honestly excited to see how this all shakes out.

Sounds to me like the next hire will also be extremely underwhelming. I mean- just tell us all flat out that you don’t care about basketball! That will help us set more realistic expectations

I'm not sure you should jump to that conclusion at this point. Gotta give this some time. Clearly wheels are in motion, teams are still playing, etc. Lots of time for good things to happen.

Thanks for trying to help me right my ship my fellow fan. Is sinking rapidly

I can say for certain that Schertz is not locked into any school right now, so whatever rumor is going around is completely false. People in his camp have made it clear that he's going to let the entire process play out before he makes his decision. He got burned the last time over this issue, where he signed paperwork with SLU, and then Louisville came calling, and SLU already had a clause in the contract that would have forced Louisville to pay an extra few million to get him. They didn't want to pay it and went with Kelsey instead. So there’s no validity to that rumor. Regardless, he's not coming to Syracuse.

I like that you’re refuting the rumor. But why this comment? “Regardless, he's not coming to Syracuse.”

I wish we had fired Red last year and hired Schertz before he blew up again. I figured he was gonna have a big year at SLU based on his track record.

Absolutely, in basketball you can flip a program in a year.

It’s true that he doesn’t have any interest in coaching here, for whatever reason. I don’t know why.

I’m not sure Syracuse can afford not to pay a lot more for a head coach than they normally would pay in basketball. If the plan is to fill the dome moving forward, you need to pay a top guy that will almost assuredly fill it.
I keep getting told attendance or a lack thereof has no affect on affording a coach but I've seen no evidence to the contrary so far.

Well, if he’s not locked into any school… you’re saying there’s still a chance? lol. Let’s bombard him with all the highlights of Syracuse’s glory years and how amazing the packed Dome can be! (And the blockbuster revenue potential)

If that’s true I respect him for that. Unless he is going to a blue blood or the next tier that we are in. This is not a normal P4 conference job. There is extra pressure, responsibility,!and expectation that comes with it. Atleast that’s how it’s supposed to be and needs to be for Syracuse to actually be Syracuse.

Memphis has crazy FedEx $$$$ and its
Way more than people think too

No what you've been told is firing Red at this point is not going to cause an increase in attendance or concession sales that'll make much difference in the big picture.

Memphis does have an unusual amount of resources for an American conference program. But they are an American conference program. I can’t imagine the revenue streams are there. I’m going to guess the state of Tennessee if they will allow an athletic program to run a deficit in order to swing above and fund a coach it’s the University of Tennessee not Memphis. All guesses, have no idea how that state works. Despite all the crazy FedEx Money for NIL, they have ceiling on coaches salary. I would be asking them as a candidate if they know they will have an opportunity to go to a power conference soon that could be a big piece of maintaining the FedEx deal long term. Until Memphis becomes a power conference program, it’s a job for a very promising young coaches who can take advantage of their resources to springboard to a prestigious power conference job that wasn’t available to them yet. If Memphis wants a guy that Syracuse wants, Syracuse has to prove it’s a prestigious power conference job.

Your guess is as good as mine on that, from what I heard before expect a national search that won't rule out alumni (GMac amongst others) but is likely to go outside the SU family tree.
I'm not sure, who amongst others would be. I can't think of another SU alum who could possibly be a candidate besides G-Mac. I love Hop, but they can't hire him as HC after the way it ended at Washington
