Coach Search Options after Autry

From reading all of this, I im setting my expectations now for hiring a coach who doesn't have much national pedigree but is well respected in the basketball coaching community, kind of like a Fran Brown type.

Might be a rough first few years, but the coach would have the potential to become good once seasoned

Fair to set expectations. I do think for Syracuse Basketball it’s different. Fran is beyond important on the Syracuse football side because of his recruiting prowess because Syracuse will spend more on basketball from a rev share standpoint than your typical power conference school and that is due to the revenue Syracuse Basketball brings in which is higher than the typical power conference school. I think Syracuse Basketball as a job does have more competition than it would’ve have 10 years ago, but still is much more attractive than what it was even just 3 years ago.

How about Brian Dutcher?
He’s 66 years old and has never coached nor lived in the east. He has a very nice job and doing very well at San Diego St. I would think he’s very thankful to San Diego St and Steve Fisher for getting his first head coaching job in his late 50’s because of his association with former head coach Steve Fisher, who also still lives in San Diego.

So I found this --- "Number one, it shows great commitment by Utah State to be in the top four in coach's salary, not only for the Mountain West, but moving forward in the new Pac-12," Calhoun said. "Then I think the other thing is you look at the buyout. The buyout is $5 million in year one, it's 4 million in year two. I'm not even sure after that. So that to me is reassurance."

I would think with a 4 or 5 million dollar buyout I think Syracuse would be out of the running...

Seems like another great offensive minded coach that we will not be in the market for...

Schertz, Olen, and now Calhoun are all a no go... Hmmmmmm blah
First off appreciate your doing some background review of coaches out there, thanks for that. I would say it's premature to say any coach is out, seems early for that. Lots could happen.

Well, it is a message board where people post opinions, so in my opinion, Syracuse won't pay Reds buyout and then pay another coach's buyout and then pay top dollar for his salary. Until they do that and prove they will do that, that is my opinion. They have proven they won't do that for football; they have a chance to prove me wrong in basketball. We will see.

You are stating this as if it is factual. I'm assuming it is just your opinion. SU does not release this type of information.

By the amount of times I say “I think” I didn’t intend for it to come off as factual. It makes sense that rev share differentials are based on the amount of revenue the sport is bringing to the university, as well as the amount of revenue the sport is capable of bringing to the university operating at maximum capability.

This is a message board? Well "no scheeet sherlock ". What you shared at the end of your post that I responded to wasn't an opinion, you specifically stated that they are all a no go. So you presented it as facts, not opinion. So whatever dude.

They are a no-go in my opinion. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I made it clear in my post now so there is no confusion like yours going forward. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
