Coach Search Options after Autry

Need to invest a little more unfortunately. What do UCONN, South Carolina, LSU, UCLA, etc pay their players. How much is needed to compete with The Big Dogs. Last year Coach was begging for working treadmills. She is a miracle worker.
And the freshman center is amazing, great athlete. And they run, sometimes too fast, but exciting.

If that's the case on Hodgson, I think it might be a good sign that Wildhack is having some conversations with stronger candidates. Some of the names that are starting to emerge, even if it's just Phil doing some research here for us, show that there are a lot of potentially excellent options.

Schertz to Ohio State just... feels... likely.
Ohio State might not even fire Diebler. Everyone needs to slow their roll.

I see us going for some big dogs and them all turning us down for bigger jobs that open up.

Ultimately they turn to Gmac . I’m picturing how this will play out and everyone will be on board w the process once it’s set this way
Honestly the Siena game last night and how Gerry operates was eye-opening compared to our team/staff.

I’m starting to lean this way as well, maybe hop. I also think some big dogs might like the job but we don’t have the resources to afford them.

Consider the Cignetti route. Who are THE best lower level coaches.

Right now it looks like Jim Crutchfield but he's 69 years old. That excludes him but these are the guys we should pound the pavement for. Iowa snatched up the most recent best candidate; Ben McCollum.

Jim Crutchfield
Nova Southeastern
Career record 222–26 (.895)

Overall Career record
581–87 (.870)

Last 4 years 135-5; 2 National Championships, 1 runner up and 1 elite 8.

Curious, what do you consider "bigger jobs"? To me, the biggest jobs are those with a combination of history and potential. What do you see opening up that provides significantly more of that than Syracuse? If the university is going to pay up there aren’t too many. The tired old narrative of poor old Syracuse is both tired and old. It's just factually incorrect. This job offers massive upside for the right hire. That to me is undebatable.

Do a national search. If GMac can beat out the other candidates, then good for him.

I personally think we need to avoid the JB bench this hire, but if GMac can beat a group from a full-throated national search, great. May the best man win.

His initial results at Siena are great. Kudos to him. But you have to have talent to get back to where we need to be. Which also means he needs to drive big money.

Get the best possible guy for the job. It's been over a decade since we were better than an 8 seed (I am blanking on who pointed this out recently, my apologies to the poster). Five years in a row counting this year with no NCAAT at all.

Get busy winning, asap.

I watched the 2nd half. One possession I saw that was amazing was the big man rolling to the hoop and Doty driving into a double team but dishing it for a dunk. Players can do that?

Anyway, Siena has a lot of ISO in their sets and Doty can use that well in low D1. There were too many turn around jumpers and fade aways for my taste though. I'm good with watching Gerry coach at another school and not at SU.

We have to aim higher than a coach who is just better than Red. Lots of coaches fit that description. Gerry is one of them, but holy crap once again people there are more coaches out there than those affiliated with cuse.

The problem with that is if we hire Gerry, would you believe that he actually “beat out” the other candidates in a thorough national search, or did we once again go for a BoT pleasing, cheap, keep it in the family hire?

How about Brian Dutcher?
Brian Dutcher is 66 years old and he graduated from Minnesota. His dad, Jim Dutcher, was head coach at Minnesota from 1975-86.

Brian has always said that coaching Minnesota was his dream job. Last season when the Minnesota job was open, he told Minnesota thanks but no thanks. He loves San Diego State ( and the weather) and plans to finish his coaching career there.

Man, if we hire within the "family" again...
