Coach Search Options after Autry

His name is Jim Crutchfield. He's 69 years old but I can't get over his career record. The guy is 581 and 87. That an 87% career winning %

He's 222–26 (.895) at Nova Southeastern with 2 National Championships.
Fascinating resume. Good call, Phat. Crutchfield has the highest winning percentage among coaches at any level in NCAA history. NBA execs and coaches consider him a genius and seek out his opinion.

"Nova Southeastern plays faster than anyone in college basketball — the Sharks’ 85.8 possessions per game this season are nearly 10 more than the fastest-playing Division I team — applies a full-court press constantly and plays every possession like it’s game point..."

Thread 'Potential JB successors'
Potential JB successors

Many in the thread were spot on at how the school ended up handling JB’s departure and the successor decision hiring Red, and ultimately the result. Keep in mind this was a full year before JB “retired”.

Hodgson and the USF Bulls with a big win over a 20-3 Tulsa team. Started the game on a 14-1 run, which is almost the opposite of what we typically do under Autry. Bulls averaging 90.4 points per game, Hodgson has improved their record by 3 wins from last season with 7 games to play.

Too bad that we can’t consider him to coach here because he allegedly said some mean words to someone not associated with our program. After all, we’ve never had a coach who ever said mean things to people, under any circumstances. And I'm supposed to wonder why we've fallen as far as we have...

Maybe if he gets to March and does something.

I dont care about what mean stuff he’s said. We all but worship JB here so I find it hilarious that thats a red line for some people.

I say a lot of stupid things but I am glad I didn't say anything in that thread. lol

One thing is still the same alot of people on the board do not watch college basketball outside of the Syracuse schedule.

I am hoping our decision is done before March Madness starts. At least we should be farther along in the process that if Hodgson makes the tournament or not it wouldn't matter much, if any.

The tournament will likely yield other under the radar names the boards overlooked too. Id be disappointed if Hodgson was the chosen candidate before the Tournament, personally.

I don't want any under the radar canidates, lol I want Schertz, Olen, or Calhoun. After that, I don't know I am still looking around, but Hodgson is my floor especialy if he can bring in Lally to basketball.

I think most of our fanbase is oblivious to just how rigged the system is against midmajors right now. P4 programs take what they want pretty much when they want it and the midmajors just have to deal with it.

No one is waiting for March madness or tourneys to make calls and get the broad strokes together. If it were a major p4 program we were scooping them maybe there would be some waiting but I don’t think those coaches are looking to rebuild programs in CNY

Calhoun I get, but Olen? How does he fit?

And you can say "we need to be front channel right now." What does that look like? I'm sure part of that for you is firing Red today. Ok, so that would be public confirmation of what the industry already knows. How would that change the ability to openly negotiate (front channel) with coaches who are contactually obligated to their teams? Those contacts would still need to be back channel.

And...how do you know SU is not "getting ahead of the process?" You are entitled to your Charlie Brown theory on why they will go with Gmac. But, without knowing what SU is doing or not doing, it comes off as more of a disgruntled tamper tantrum.
Im Just speculating. It’s a message board. Sorry my elegant solution isn’t more on brand.

They should fire red, own that news for a day or so and put it out there that Syracuse is open for business again. The business being a top 10 program.

This passive aggressive way of letting red lose out and then pretend the process played out is foolish to me.

Again message board and I’m putting my opinion out there.

I think Olen might be the best coach on the market. The only box he doesn't check is region fit but in NIL I think that is less important as it used to be. It is important but I don't think it is a must. Everything thing I read about him points to him being a slam dunk coach. 99.99% he will be at ASU next year (maybe higher than ASU) so it doesn't matter but if I am looking at an up-and-coming coach, he checks every single box I would want.

Strong Xs and Os on both sides
Success at lower levels won division titles and conference tournament titles
Won conference coach of the year awards
Won in March via upsets

Besides west coast thing, he is the perfect candidate when looking at a coach.

The Lally comment is interesting because obviously Fran Brown is already trying to squeeze every dollar he can from that family for football. To be honest there’s probably a lot left to squeeze.

We’re not exactly doing ourselves favors though if the Lallys just split what they were giving between both sports. Hard pill for Fran to swallow too that he could’ve had an extra mil or two but it’s going to hoops nil instead.

Either way I think Fran should get a say in the candidates. Honestly he’s prob more plugged in to what’s happening in SEC country and Florida and what college athletes are saying and hearing than anyone on our search committee.

I also think that for the first time ever we’re seeing that a HC has to be a real presence off the court and create buzz just as much as on the court.

I don’t care how great their metrics and playbook is, if they can’t get the money flowing for hoops on the Hill it’s a nonstarter.

Getting a hoops and a football coach that are both on the same page getting the fanbase excited would be huge.
