Coach Search Options after Autry

I know this is going to sound crazy, but I could see a scenario where none of the players on this year's team come back next year.

The new staff could decide to go in a different direction from George or think that he's overpaid, who knows with Kiyan, White was an Autry guy, the Betsey camp has been disgruntled, and Souare would probably bail if George does. And Freeman might bail to go to a winner / team that can help elevate his draft status.

If the new staff wants to clean house, could be a full rebuild.

Not a prediction, just saying it could legitimately happen.

That’s what happened at Miami this season.

I still think Schertz is very much in play

Schertz or Hodgson. Both would turn this around quickly. Hope it’s one of them. If not I will fully support who’s next but I think these are the top 2 realistic candidates.

It’s a bit different. Tons of people have tough childhoods and have to make the best of it. Not trying to debate that at all

The difference is Red was a star basketball player at Cuse. Because he achieved that he’s going to get coaching opportunities. Same with GMac or any other good player who shows an aptitude for coaching. Those guys didn’t have to toil away at small schools and work their way up the coaching ladder

Usually the best players don’t make the best coaches. I actually like coaches that played, but weren’t the start or even starter. They seem to have an additional layer of grit that makes they successful as a coach.

We’re going to lose this game to Duke. We’re down to 4 weeks left in the Red era. Can’t wait for this next coaching search to really get underway. I’m hoping we have a new coach named within the next 5 weeks. Anything beyond that and this board will get very antsy.

Chestnut Hill is gorgeous? My son is a student at BC Law and Chestnut Hill/Newton is overly expensive, full of construction, and nowhere to park. They have a Wegmans, but it’s so small and overpriced. Give me Dewitt, Fayetteville or Manlius any day

The qualifier is living there with money, for sure! Also the law school is separate from the main campus.

GMAC is a small town boy. Like Boeheim. You like what you know and feel comfortable with.

Arguably Brad Stevens was like that too.

Congratulations to your son! BC Law is an excellent school. The qualifier to my comment is definitely living there with lots of money. Just saying Gerry could very well end up sucked in like one of my favorite (former) basketball coaches Brad Stevens won’t leave Celtics for Indiana: ‘I’m a 44-year-old M’

Im going on record now saying I really only want Kingz back and also Sadiq if he’s willing to work at it and fight for mins again.

Freeman may have the most talent but the inconsistency may make for a brutal start to a new era.

If the new coach watching has a pulse he’ll feel like he can coach better than Autry did tonight. Losses like this should turn the heat back up to 1000 degrees and hopefully push the backroom conversations farther along.

Always thought the last chance for Autry to resign or a change would be after UNC this Saturday. Even if it’s announced I think Autry still coaches out the rest after last weeks huge winning streak.

The only thing left is when they make the announcement that Red has been let go.
There is no miracle run coming to keep his

It is a nice place to live but you've got to be very wealthy. The traffic is horrendous, Rt.9 on a Friday night is complete gridlock until 7 pm. The rest of the week is no day in the park either.

I don't have much to contribute here aside from the fact that my brother played against Hodgson in intramural basketball and Hodgson apparently was also reffing a game in which my brothers team got into a brawl with their opponents. So it would be fun to see him on the sideline and think about that.

Whoever we get I hope the admin is thinking about next years team. If we can retain Kingz, White, Betsy, Anthony, Suore, George we will have a great nucleus. Freeman will most likely be gone even if not ready. Then we would need to pay premium to replace Kyle and Freeman. I don’t think we can afford to start from zero….Thoughts?

I wouldn’t expect more than 2-3 of these guys to return nor do I really care. Kiyan (NIL), Kingz, and Donnie (if he stays in college) are 3 I could see coming back

That is fine as well. If we go with Hodgson I think Kingz is a fit in his offense. Betsy and Anthony are fits as well. Freeman is a fit in any offense, really. I think Nait doesn't play fast enough, and when he does, he gets out of control too much, so I don't think he would be a great fit in the way Hodgson wants his PG to play.

I don’t even bother trying but do any players actually not have eligibility left after this year ? Not that it even matters in 2026.

All I can say is I'm pretty sure last night was not what Wildhack meant by playing meaningful games at the end of season. It's time to call the Code Red. Hodgson must have been salivating last night watching what Red served up for the main course lol

Yeah Syracuse doesn't have the luxury of hiring a coach with no HC experience at this stage. I mean that shouldn't even be a question. GMac isn't close to the solution either sorry but not sorry. Some fans have this fantasy of GMac the player becoming GMac the SU coach. GMac hasn't done enough as HC yet. Kudos to his results this year so far but he needs a larger resume.
