Coach Search Options after Autry

Absolutely as the year went on we regressed sharply.
Again lack of leadership even soured the most team first players like Kyle at the end.
You could legitimately say we had a good team and good coach at Vegas but our coach frittered that away and had no idea how to keep the momentum going. No flipping clue!
Thank God both USF and Siena had really good free throw shooting teams.

Yes, but you need players buying into the philosophy of sharing the ball, not looking at their stat sheet,
Sometimes talent or lack their of, or lack of bodies, force more ISO.
I would argue Gerry having only 7 scholarship players probably dictated the style of offensive play more than anything,
If you run frenetic defense with practically no bench, you have to slow down the offense or risk burning your team out.
At any rate, my original post was to express support for BH and his understanding that it takes more than putting together 10 talented guys on a team to win.
They must fit together as a unit and pull for the team goal of winning. Character and leadership matter
If you run an actual offense, the players HAVE to share the ball. Mid major programs compete at the highest level in the tournament because of their sets, because they don't have the talent or the bodies.

Character and leadership matter, but only can bring you so far.

Please help me shed more light on the BH vs. GMac debate. I know it could be someone else but just these two potential candidates for now.
I have not seen any games Sienna has played, ever but am aware of GMacs success thus far.
Maybe I can catch their upcoming tournament game if possible and see them play. In the meantime, to those in the know, would you say that Siennas style of play is obviously an outcome of GMacs SU ties? Does their style resemble that of a typical JAB team?
I’m obviously trying to understand the most common complaint about a coach stuck in SU’s pasts history of coaching and playing or does GMac run his own play style.

If we ran offensive sets, you'd see a team functioning as a unit. That's my point. The SU style of offense has been "me time" for the last 50 years. Gerry has inherited that from JAB, and that's why he can't be the pick.
U can go out and learn new offense. Coaches who are not self absorbed can and will learn as many new things as they can. Their o does not look like ours. They coach effort on defense also. I can do both coaches but if Mac can right this ship, it would be spectacular.

Well their defense is not JABs vaunted zone.
His is man to man in your face like a bunch of pesky mosquitoes.
Pretty good too, held Merrimack to no points the first 9 minutes of the second half of the MAAC championship game.
Offense this year was slow but with only 7 scholarship players I don’t know if that was what GMAC originally planned for. They lost their sixth man sharpshooter to injury ultimately for the whole year and their best big man the end of December.
Then lost their next best big man 3 weeks ago.

Just like Red was going to bring in a new coach to help run a better, pressure-man defense. That worked well.

It is wild how people will twist themselves in knots to not just say "We love Gerry because he's a legend and we want him as our coach!" That would at least be honest.
Gerry in the BET was a HUGE part of the reason I ended up attending SU. I love the guy. But this is not the time for him to be coaching this program.

First off only one ‘N’ in Siena.

They rarely if ever play zone. They play hard, and there are countless times when they make an adjustment at halftime and then dominate in the 2nd half. Gerry was outcoached in maybe 3/4 games this year. But they have been shorthanded all year. Offensively they don’t stand around and wait for the clock to expire like Red’s teams.

Roster wise they were without Ducharme who shot ~35% from 3 last year. That left them with barely any 3 point shooting. Brendan Coyle who was their sharpshooter last year struggled all year and they dont win in AC without him. He credits Gerry for sticking with it. They also had 2 freshman who were awful defenders who could shoot but they were streaky.

They also lost Tas Goodrick who was their center midyear, and he was really playing well and Antonio Chandler for the last 5 games due to eligibility. That left them with 2 big men for the MAAC tournament.

The development of Francis Folefac for a freshman in the MAAC has been outstanding. He also defended the MAAC player of the year in the title game who had 16 free throws alone in the win by Merrimack a few weeks prior. That was a stroke of genius which they credited to Ben Lee who was an assistant under Hop before coming to Siena.

Gavin Doty is also a dog. You would love him at Syracuse. He comes out of nowhere constantly for rebounds. Has a sick midrange game and is super competitive.
