Coach Search Options after Autry

I'm not trying to call anyone out for lying/spreading misinformation but that $14 mil number for Providence is just incorrect. I'm not sure where that is coming from. Maybe BH's agent is throwing that around to see how high Syracuse can get. That's my gut feeling.
Obviously. You can count on two fingers who spent more than that this year.

Oh, I' sure there is all sorts of nonsense being floated around. Yaxel Lendeborg said he turned down $7-9m from Kentucky to go to Michigan because Dusty May didn't talk about money with him.

NCAA has a real mess on their hands and they need to 1) realize that the genie isn't going back into the lamp and they can't unshit the bed; and 2) the future isn't going to look like the past.

I've been saying for several years that the reason the SEC is not dominating football anymore is that now everybody is able to pay their players and that took away the SEC's advantage.
Are you Shane Gillis? Remember when he said that Saban on air ha

I don’t think he could keep up in that system. Everyone crashes the offensive boards. Donnie just stands around and watches. He’s a miracle worker if he can get Freeman to play defense and crash the offensive boards.
Rebounding was my immediate thought as well.

Ey choose to deal
If that’s all we’re willing and able to spend, we’re destined for just a hair above mediocrity. It’s clear the Syracuse athletic program isn’t suited for the NIL world.
It’s the SU philosophy on athletics. Not that the are not suited for it, it’s how they chose to address it. That’s the difference.

there are many many more than just that one with you making claims of me saying things that weren't in any of those posts. should i post them? id rather not. and if my statement was so "duh" why any of this? yes or no. is nil something a coaching candidate will ask about? no long winded answer, just yes or no.
Yes. And maybe even what can I expect is available for the first 3 years of my contract.

The whiplash from we have no money and nobody wants the job to it’s a great job and we have a ton of interest is going to break me.
We have 6 candidates!
We have 1 and only one (don't dare say there's 2)!
We have 0 candidates!

We'll know by Tuesday folks, unless one of these candidates goes on a deep run.

I honestly don’t want anyone back from this year back with the exception of Melo and White I don’t see any reason to keep any of them. My opinion doesn’t matter but we can’t have any more losing seasons
I just want a point guard that is more aggressive than George on defense. This is the weakest link this year.

Counterpoint… even with all the money these dudes are making, the schools are making immense profits off of them. You could argue they are underpaid, especially on the football side.

The universities will absolutely need to start rev sharing. The only way this doesn’t continue to turn into MLB or la liga is with some sort of salary cap.
I’d be interested to see what the actual cash return to the school is on this stuff. Most of these schools are hurtling toward a financial cliff

Been out of the loop for a while with the program. Program should be trying to go after Ben McCollum. I know he just got to Iowa but Cuse is a better job and he’s a really really good basketball coach.
The former Iowa coach wouldn’t be a bad choice either. Just made the tournament with his 5th program.

Correction: he asked for a number that was agreed to in priniciple prior, and now his agent is asking for a higher number using the leverage of a second offer from another school. That's what happens when you have options -- smart negotiations.

The question is whether or not our athletic department -- with all of the current political in-fighting -- is going to drop the ball this close to the finish line. Not whether we had the resources to meet the initial demand in the first place, or even whether we have the $$$ to meet the second demand.

Right now, things are a shiz show behind-the-scenes due to politics. Resources are not a systemic problem, but when you have significant donors fighting one another, THAT'S the problem.

It may be smart negotiations on his part , and good for his self interests. but if he asked for a number, the university agreed to it, & now he wants a higher number, that is not a person I would continue negotiations with.

Would you like to win again?

There are a lot of coaches who can resurrect the program.

Why do we believe there is just one?

If he changes his mind about the NIL money he needs bc a 3rd party offers more, what else is he gonna change his mind about?

These aren't admirable characteristics in my worldview.
Who? You keep reverting to GMac. Name someone else.

He's the best coaches out there and wants to coach here.

I don't agree. Happens all the time, in everyday life.

People get offered jobs, and then ask for more money all the time. It's called negotiation.

And if the person has leverage, or multiple offers, then they have nothing to lose by asking.

If the employer has psychological commitment to hiring that person, then it comes down to whether the counter-offer is reasonable or not. If it is, then they make a deal.

I think there is a possibility he stays with BH, but I think I want him to move on because I feel with AAU and High School, and then 2 years of Red he has picked up too many bad habits.

I can assure you we want him to stay - he is good player that plays both ways and is a team player

It's hard because you have to separate the costs of running an AD and all the non-rev sports.

If you just separated out football and focused on that...the math would make sense for a lot more schools. But if you're including the cost of scholarships and the budgets for every sport...yea, there's no way, it's all bad.

And nobody talks about that -- the bargain before was that revenue sports subsidized a lot of good and scholarships in other sports. Now, that part of the trade is essentially gone. Either schools have to subsidize those sports on their own because they deem them valuable, or they have to figure another way out.

And I suspect you'll see a challenge to Title IX before the Supreme Court before long if another fix doesn't happen in Congress or with the conferences.

What is described - an ask, an agreement and then a new ask - most certainly does NOT happen all the time.
