Well the mention from out of nowhere now seems to be coming into play if young is the guy

After doing some digging I think my number one guy is John Groce. I'd actually rank him about Hodgson as he already has P4 coaching experience before jumping back to the MAC with big time success there. Only making $650k so could be in line for big pay bump to jump to Syracuse, and has live in midwest his whole life so Syracuse climate shouldn't bother him that much.

He's one of the hotter names, but don't forget (and people do), he e largely failed at Illinois.

I woke up this morning with a pain in my gut that I haven't felt in years. I used to feel this way after a tough loss. Losing Hodgson (for me) is a kick in the nuts for two reasons... 1) losing out on a coach who looks like what we need to get back to a good program; 2) possibly shows us that Syracuse isn't serious and committed to getting the program back to where it should be.

I believe if HOP was coach in 2018 he would still be coaching. Also, if it did not work out we could have taken care of it sooner. BUt our good ole Jimmy B had to play DADDY BALL

I don't know if he'd still be coaching. I still don't think he's a great bench coach. But if he couldn't hack it, it definitely would be nice to have found out and be done with it by now.

This syracuse sports fan life is nothing but a cruel sick joke. If it is hop or gmac I am out on being a cuse basketball fan because the powers that be do not want to actually compete. They want to be cheap bastards who pick a name the average joe at least knows so out of touch people are under the illusion that we are still competing and don't complain. I don't even think it is "clinging to the past". It is a calculation of the cheapest option they can get away with without the fanbase getting mad, and old names are the best bet for calming most of the fanbase.

But what if the #1 item on your list ends up being that Phil Martelli, Jr (or some other non-SU person) gets the job? And then #2 thru #9 all play out the same way? Would the dome faithful give the benefit of the doubt to PMJ if Year 1 went off the rails - but not extend that same courtesy to Gerry or to Hop?

We’re not guaranteed success next year, no matter who we hire. We’re likely to have an entirely new roster, and it might take the new staff a year or two to build the foundation that they want. Even if we had landed Hodgson, it wouldn’t be crazy to think that he might have led us to a 21-12 record, 10-10 in the ACC (tied for 7th place), with us squarely on the bubble again next March. If Hodgson or any other ‘outsider’ does that, would whispers start after Year 1 that he might not be the right coach? If Gerry/Hop lead us to a similar record next year, will they be treated differently just because they’re SU alums?

Agree. Will Wade was the top ACC coach on the board last year. This year 20 wins and couldn’t win a play in game and nc state gave him everything he wanted.

You think that fanbase is happy on that return. All we can do is wait.

Agree fully. There’s a ton of interdependencies as well. I’m not naive to think it’s not money but there’s a story behind it too.

Everyone just thought the Lallys because theyre buds with BH would just step up to give what he asked for hoops in NIL. Reality is that they can do that at USF too and live in that community half the year. You think they can show their face at USF games if BH goes up to CNY and it was so blatantly thrown in their faces at USF.

Make no mistake snowbirds are snowbirds. Nothing brings them back to CNY in Jan and Feb. point being they may be quite happy with the status quo where they support hoops and BH in Florida and Fran for football in the fall.

And Frans no dope either. He knows Every check that Lally writes for BH is a check not going to him to find an offensive line right now. We all assume they can just write blank checks but

The BOT and Big Donors need to understand that without accountability, there’s consequence. Whether they realize yet that that consequence will be there’s to own, is not this fan’s issue.

You say that but it's really not true, there are no consequences, we're seeing it real time. The board decides their own fate, the same as the Chancelor at a Private University.

The fans are just yelling into an echo chamber, all we can do is just not buy tickets or show up or get hosed on tv media deals for being irrelevant

I have never seen a single board member ever ever lose their job for our sports sucking, nor will big donors ever be turned away.

This is not LSU where if you lose the voters riot, they throw out the school decisionmakers and then they re-allocate tax money to rebuild.
